DC-gone-California's Jake Laufer is a singer-songwriter with hooks, lyrics and a strong pop sensibility, and with Notes from the Sherpa Underground (Sherpa Underground being the name of his band), his first disc in nine years, he puts it all together. Reminding me of a cross between Nick Pipitone and Elvis Costello with a bit of Matthew Sweet in the mix, Laufer pumps out one quality tune after another. The standouts here include "Only One in Town" (think Costello fronting the Gin Blossoms), "Subway Girl" (Tommy Keene meets the Smithereens), the mod beats of "Song Called Nora", and the gorgeous "The Only Way". Plus, he throws in a revved-up, rocking cover of "Hungry Like the Wolf". What more can you ask for? - CD Review
First up was Jake Laufer, an Arlington, Virginia based singer/songwriter. The Sherpa Underground Frontman stepped on stage and did what few have ever done before; play solo acoustic on the large Jaxx stage.
Jake was magnificent. His songs were a blend of rock, funk, wit, humor, and really catchy hooks. And his stage presence was commanding enough that he easily won the crowd over and created a little bit of audience participation. - On Tap Magazine

Bio
The July, 2009 release of Singer/Songwriter Jake Laufer’s second studio CD, Notes from the Sherpa Underground, features the musicianship, soulful vocals and quirky lyrical stye that made him a longtime favorite of the Mid-Atlantic club and college scenes. Having shared the stage with everybody from Rick Springfield to Eric Hutchinson, Jake has proven his ability to entertain crowds and win fans at venues large and small for over 10 years. Jake’s literate acoustic pop has been compared to artists like Ben Lee, Elvis Costello and Matthew Sweet, with poppy hooks and thoughtful lyrics that reward multiple listens. Now based in Los Angeles.
