"Jackson Wetherbee Band on the brink"

A gig at a Whitman bar four years ago turned out to be Dave Malekpour’s lucky night.

Malekpour was on guitar playing in the Rob Benton Band at the now defunct Shoemaker Tavern when he met the woman he would marry, and the young man with whom he’d launch the hugely popular acoustic rock group, the Jackson Wetherbee Band (JWB).

“I guess I should thank Rob Benton,” joked Malekpour, the president of the Pembroke-based Professional Audio Design, Inc. and the founder of the label, Flying Carpet Records. Married in 2008 to his wife, Maryann with whom he has two children, Malekpour also joined up with Jackson Wetherbee that night, and set the foundation for a local band now ready to hit the big time.

After a sold out album release show at the Hard Rock Cafe, The Jackson Wetherbee Band will be playing a ton of local shows to support his new album. The new album will be released on September 14th on Jackson Wetherbee and Dave Malekpour’s own Flying Carpet Records.

The Jackson Wetherbee Band’s new album is chockfull of sincere and honest lyrical illustrations and effortless feel-good anthems. From the funky bass lines of “Remember My Friends” and the carefree summer tones of “Weeping Willow” to the more introspective “Symphony of Dreams” and “We’re Not Giving Up Now,” Wetherbee’s heartfelt approach is pure. In the same vein of John Mayer and the Dave Matthews Band, it’s that poignant reflection that sucks you in and keeps you there.

So far, the band has been on a fast track to success. Earlier this year, the band won 92.9 Local Battle of the Bands to open the 17th Annual EarthFest in Boston, opening for the Gin Blossoms, Collective Soul, Crash Kings, and Marcy Playground.

In addition to playing at well-known Boston venues such as the House of Blues, Hard Rock Café, The Middle East, and Paradise Rock Club, the Jackson Wetherbee Band joined other local acts for the first annual FrankFest, a benefit concert for leukemia awareness on July 17th at the Hard Rock Café in Boston.

Proceeds from the event went to support the Frank Says Hi Scholarship Fund, which was founded in memory of Frankie DeCandia who passed away in 2008 from chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML).

Additional in-store appearances are also slated for this summer.

Bio

Jackson Wetherbee hails from the sleepy small towns of Boston's South Shore. Jackson grew up singing, and has not stopped! Influenced by Dispatch, Jack Johnson, John Mayer, and other singer songwriters, he was determined to forge a sound all his own. Meeting up with guitarist and recording producer Dave Malekpour in his senior year of high school gave him the chance to record some acoustic demo's of what would become some of the songs on the debut CD that is set for release Aug 6th 2010.

Wetherbee and Malekpour set out to record an album and found the musicians who would later become the Jackson Wetherbee Band. Recording in Malekpour's facility, they recorded a full length CD of Jackson's best songs and a couple they co-wrote together.

The band is now playing 3-6 nights a week all over the New England area and beyond. For some shows, the band blends covers and originals, though any cover will take on the unique sound of the JWB, such as a reggae versions of 8 Days a week, and a funky Fresh & Clean by OutKast.

The band includes Jackson on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Dave Malekpour on Lead guitar, Chris Santos on Drums, Dan Fowler on Bass, George Smith on Piano & Organ, and Jonathan Berman on Sax.

Recently the band won the WBOS Radio 92.9 Boch Boston Battle of the Bands and opened Earthfest 2010, opening for Collective Soul, Crash Kings, Gin Blossoms, and Marcy Playground. They also sold out the Boston Hardrock Cafe at their debut cd release party on August 6th.

The Jackson Wetherbee Band has played House of Blues, House Of Blues Foundation Room, Hardrock Cafe, Paradise, Church, Johnny D's, Harpers Ferry and many other of the areas top clubs.
