Jack Berry's "Heathen Heart" lands at #2 on Blues Rock Review's Top 20 Albums of 2013 behind Buddy Guy's Rhythm & Blues - Bluesrockreview.com
Jack Berry is a budding star on the blues rock scene. The 25-year-old Los Angeles based guitarist released his debut album Heathen Heart at the end of 2012 and is already drawing comparisons to Jack White and The Black Keys - Blues Rock Radio
Less than a year ago, Jack Berry released his debut album Heathen Heart and quickly drew comparisons to Jack White and The Black Keys. With crunching riffs, filthy tones, and catchy hooks, it’s only a matter of time before Berry joins the likes of Gary Clark Jr. at the forefront of the blues rock revival. - Bluesrockreview.com
Jack Berry’s debut album is nothing short of a resolute and noisy mash up of blues, rock, grit and soul. Heathen Heart is sure to leave you in a state of disarray, with little money, a smoky odor and booze induced memory loss. I would expect nothing less from this hardened rocker from Reno.
The weary spoken word intro to “Rooster Up” is full of blunt honesty, followed by the eruption of Berry’s distorted guitar providing some edgy fretwork that keeps it dirtier than a one star motel bed. The tune is catchy, a heavy chorus and melody makes that hook all the more appealing. “Kiss Like” plows on with a crunchy guitar line, a retrospect of classic instrumental sound from the likes of Jimmy Page or Jimi Hendrix.
While most of the album is a passionately charged onslaught, “Reno” and “Substitute” shows off Berry’s ability to soften the mood while keeping up the intensity of his demeanor over the listener. Berry has a style and certain swagger that belongs to the new wave of blues rock musicians. He fits in well with the likes of The Black Keys and Jack White. Definitely keep an ear out for this man if this is a taste of things to come.
The Review: 9/10

Rambling all around the U.S., but originally hailing for Reno, NV, Jack Berry’s brand of outlaw, troubadour, rock ’n’ roll music is just what we all need more of in our lives. He sounds a bit like Steve Earl meets the Black Keys, and his infectious tunes have a way of sticking in your head. After gigging around LA for awhile, with his backing band Loaded Loot, Jack has now started calling Nashville home, and has recruited a new backing line-up that will be sure to blow your socks off in the late night spot on this bill. - No Country for New Nashville
