Opening the night was energetic local ska band It Gets Worse. Tractor Tavern does not have a big stage, so it was an accomplishment in itself to fit all eight band members up there. Once they did though, they were one continuous rolling boulder of madness and fun.
IGW’s sound was classic ska/reggae. Lead singer Chelsea Crispin’s dancing and vocals were a force to be reckoned with. Their stand out song of the night was “Anymore,” a track about the arc of sadness from losing love to not giving a shit anymore, with its awesome crescendo of slow to raging tempo. Near the end of their set, they raffled off a mallard mask, which showed off their lovable, carefree nature. - Seattle Music News
Seattle ska band It Gets Worse have released a video for their cover of Screeching Weasel’s “Cool Kids.”
The relocated Wyomingites will be releasing their debut album in July.
You can see the video below, but if you prefer your ska without the visual of townies tossing empty beer cans willy-nilly, you can check out the song on bandcamp. - Dying Scene
Starting off the whole evening was Seattle’s own It Gets Worse. Going to see nationally known ska bands now almost guarantees It Gets Worse is on the bill and this is a treat to look forward to. Suffice to say, they still AREN’T getting worse. I have watched this band for a couple of years now and have seen them evolve into the tight knit fun band they are today. The addition of vocalist Chelsea Crispin not only adds to the music but adds to the charisma. This time many of the band members sported quirky attire. Bass player and vocalist James Sweazea wore large white square rimmed plastic sunglasses and a cool black hat. Trombonist Andrew Adams (also known as the Brassquatch) wore a large fur hat with horns sticking out of it. Trumpeter Sam Trowbridge looked like a school boy in black shorts, a striped shirt and a yellow floppy hat you’d expect to find on a toddler. The onstage antics and costumes this band comes out with only adds to the entertainment. Their stage personas don’t at all detract from the superb musicianship offered up by this band. When their set was over I overheard a few people nearby enthusiastically proclaiming how good they were. - East Portland Blog
Tonight was one of those nights where the magic of social media helps you discover a band somewhere else in the country, and when they finally come to your home city you make sure to go see them play. It Gets Worse is that band for me on this Tuesday night. They originally followed me over a year ago on Instagram, and I looked into who they were and some of their music to end up following back.
The show got a little flipped around, as our band from Seattle, It Gets Worse, went next. These guys were the Ska Punk of the night. They did have a broken string, about a song in, but that was it for issues through their set. It Gets Worse loves to move around. It was apparent watching their brass section and singer, Chelsea, dance around the stage and Yucca. For once, Dane, from Bowcat, wasn’t the only musician moving around the venue during their set with the It Gets Worse brass section doing the same tonight.
Talking to James, their bassist, he is among three originals that started the band in Wyoming and moved it to Seattle for the form it is now. They were short two saxophonists on this tour due to various reasons, so it wasn’t the full band this night. It Gets Worse has great influences including Aquabats and Reel Big Fish, which you can hear some of it in the story telling of The Iron Lung they performed and all the on stage dancing around. An energy filled set in the middle of this Tuesday. - Every Show Joe
Seattle ska band It Gets Worse have long been a favorite of East Portland Blog. They are in the midst of a good, long run of success and have just released a video for “Cool Kids.” The band will be appearing at the Nectar Lounge in Seattle on June 18 with Mad Caddies and The Happys. - East Portland Blog
As previously stated, It Gets Worse played just prior to Gully. It Gets Worse doesn’t come close to getting worse. They just keep getting better. They’ve really developed as a band and have honed their stage act. This time they’ve added another singer, Chelsea Crispin and could she sing! When she wasn’t singing she was dancing about the stage. This band really pumps up the onstage antics, yet it never detracts from the superb musicianship. Bass player James Sweazea now had hair to his shoulders that whipped about as he flitted manically about the stage.
Not to be outdone, three-fifths of the horn section leaped off the stage, danced in a circle pit with the audience and stood on tables, never missing a beat. That’s just a small description of what it’s like to see It Gets Worse play live. One never knows what to expect and that’s just one of the elements that make them one of the most fun bands to watch. - East Portland Blog

Back in 2011, a group of small town musical outcasts decided that there were some sounds missing in the Wyoming music scene. They decided to start Wyoming’s only Ska Band, It Gets Worse. Influenced by bands like Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish, not to mention local Denver greats Five Iron Frenzy, the band focuses on providing a raw, high energy live performance. Not limiting themselves, IGW song influences range from swing to punk to …yes country western. Living in Wyoming, some of those influences will unknowingly sink in.
After 2 years of non-stop gigs around the western US and opening for many national touring acts, the band decided to expand themselves into a broader music scene. Seattle beckoned as the city where It Gets Worse would start its next chapter. Picking up a few new members in Seattle, IGW has been constantly performing throughout west coast for the better part of 3 years. Playing with the likes of The Toasters, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Save Ferris, Mad Caddies, and Afroman among others, as well as some of the biggest music festivals in the Northwest including Seattle Hemp Fest 2016, IGW never ceases to impress their crowds.
In December 2016 the band returned from their latest West Coast tour and has since been focused on completing their debut full-length album, due out July 2017. The first track, "Cool Kids" was released along with a music video in April 2017.
