I Shot SAMO is comprised of husband and wife duo Melissa and David Zappitelli. The Montreal based couple formed the band I Shot Samo whose name was inspired by Jean Michel Basquiat. His tag back in his street art years was SAMO which meant “Same Old Shit”. Melissa and David have been working on their passion project a little over a year to spend their time creating music which is meaningful for them instead of just doing the “SAMO”.
“War Has Begun” is a great track with expansive melodies and Melissa’s vocals compliment the backdrop of indie rock sprinkled with pop and even some psych sensibilities. “War Has Begun” is off of their EP It’s Alright To See Black. You can purchase their EP for less than your daily grande latte over on bandcamp. - The Revue
Inventive arrangements make for an interesting listen, while moody b/w footage sets the tone for this video of I Shot Samo’s “The War Has Begun”. - Weird Canada
カナダ/モントリオールを拠点に活動するインディーロックデュオ I Shot Samoが、11月にリリースしたデビューEP "It's Alright to See Black"から'The War Has Begun'のMVを公開! - Niche Music
The opening strains of blues-rock give notice that this EP is no ordinary work of indie pop — in fact, I Shot Samo defy that classification with each and every track. The vocal tag team of David Massé and Melissa Z guide us through everything from Beatlesque psychedelia (“It’a Alright to See Black”), punk (“I Fucked My Way”) and dark folk pop. The arrangements are creative throughout, making this a top-notch EP. - Weird Canada
SAMO: Or Same Old Shit, tag used by Jean-Michel Basquiat. We’ve all heard it, we all know what it means, but not many of us actually do something about that Same old Shit, which creeps up on us all too often. Two fellow Montrealers didn’t take those words likely and decided to do something about it; break the dullness of a daily routine buy giving themselves total freedom creatively toward a project – I Shot Samo. A year later, what started out as a passion and a means to shake things up has now turned into an EP.
David Massé (The Damn Truth) and Melissa Zappitelli teamed up with a few friends to record a few songs, one of which, “Adult Head”, has already been released as their first single and can be heard on Jay Walker‘s Montreal Rocks show on CHOM. The busy bees are already on their second single, “War Has Begun” which will drop in upcoming months. But first things first, the EP. It’s Alright To See Black will be released on November 25th (which is also the first time they’ll be playing live) and it’s all going down at Casa Del Popolo. - Naked Underground
A dissonant entry into the musical world of I Shot Samo a gifted band from Montreal. You can tell this song will be amazing as soon as the male/female vocals clock in at 0:38. And 3:05 … wow. - Indie Planet

Bio
I Shot Samo is a Montreal based indie rock band, consisting of David Massé and Melissa Z. Live shows are performed as a four piece band. The band name, was inspired by artist Jean Michel Basquiat. His tag in collaboration with Al Diaz was SAMO and it meant “Same Old Shit”. They started working on this project in early 2015, it was a way to break up what was becoming day in and day out, the same old shit, hence the name.
Both band members have broad and eclectic musical influences. Their debut ep It's Alright to See Black is definitely a reflection of this. The music will guide you through everything from psychedelia, punk and dark folk. Specific influences include Wilco, Broken Social Scene, Blur, etc.
Since releasing their ep It's Alright to See Black, they have been featured in various digital press and music blogs. Their first single Adulthead is on regular rotation on local commercial radio and second single The War Has Begun has a licensing contract with a Montreal based publishing company.
The band is currently working on their second ep, and will be playing a handful of shows in the next little while.
