{intake}ca: \'in-?tak\ca – (band)

{intake}ca is the result of six musical journeymen’s relentless pursuit to craft something more than a song. Frustrated with the jaded market of Southern California’s inundated musical landscape, Robb Sackett [vocals], Michael Head [guitar], Scott Ramsay [guitar], Jason Smolchuck [bass], Joseph Estrada [drums], and Brian “EZ” Balderas [samples] all got together to create a new chaotic sound in late 2009. With all members having worked in various projects that resulted in little movement, frontman Robb Sackett explained the inevitable collaboration, “Our lineup consists of the best musicians we could steal from other local acts. These bands had such awesome, talented people in their ranks and just sat on it.” Fusing an incendiary combination of aggressive metal and progressive electronica, {intake}ca has collectively managed to break through the glass ceiling of creative limitation.

Since its inception, the all too familiar tribulations that come with balancing life and artistic expression have forced the band’s hand, leading to necessary line-up changes, writer’s block, and an eventual revitalization. Having shared the stage with the likes of Snot, Static-X, (hed)p.e., Ill Nino, Human Waste Project, Body Count, and In This Moment, to name a few, {intake}ca’s ambitious take on traditional drop tuning and guttural vocals has earned the band a healthy reputation among some of the industry’s most respected contributors. With a stage show that explodes with primal energy and reckless abandon, the six create anthems of dark celebration that explore the more lascivious corners of humanity.

Complete with a solidified roster of musicians all firing on the same creative cylinders, {intake}ca has completed their independently released EP Fatal Exception 06. “More than anything else this record needed to be a perfect translation of what we do onstage, put onto a record,” Sackett explains. A lush mixture, {intake}ca manages to transition from the eerie musical simplicity of an appropriate sample, to an all out assault of strings, percussion, and visceral throat that unapologetically, “calls it, like they see it.”
