Inspired Flight

Rooted in hip-hop and dipping into elements of indie rock, downtempo, dub and dance, Inspired Flight is taking your pre-conceived notion of what a band and DJ are and merging them into something new and quite hypnotizing. By creatively integrating traditional DJ elements, like sampling and scratching into original head-nodding songs, this duo from San Diego, CA is carving their own unique niche into music translating into the ultimate electric, live experience. Inspired Flight conducts their music live by combining multiple laptops, keyboards and turntables whilst incorporating guitars, kalimbas, melodicas and vocals.

Inspired Flight is a duo comprised of master turntablist, OpenOptics, and accomplished guitarist/songwriter, Chavez. Both began their commitment to music at a very young age with a love for hip-hop. As teenagers OpenOptics became obsessed with turntables, collecting records and DJ'ing, while Chavez became fixated on guitar, British rock and songwriting. The two traveled their respective musical paths with true dedication and passion, honing their skills as musicians, and in 2006 they met one another. By this time, OpenOptics and Chavez had already seriously ventured into recording and producing music and simultaneously developed a strong love for electronic music. It didn't take long at all for the two to collaborate, and the fusion of musical interests, backgrounds and personalities ended up being the perfect balance for creating fresh, thought-provoking sounds.

Inspired Flight has been working hard, rehearsing, remixing and recording non-stop since they started. The duo has already shared the stage with downtempo electronic act, Bitter:Sweet (Cuango Music Group, Los Angeles) and Adam Freeland (Marine Parade, United Kingdom) to name a few. Inspired Flight has also been blessed with constructing remixes for several artists, including a notable piece for the Australian electronic group, Tra La La Blip which got serious attention on Triple J, the Australian national radio outlet. Inspired Flight currently has an EP out called Through Sight and Sound and are working on their first full-length album which will be available this August.
