What's happened with Indelible since we last spoke with them two years ago?
"We've been touring Canada, done a few music videos, won some small awards," says Port Moody's J Thorn, one-half of the duo that includes his brother, Illucid.
The hip-hop group, which will be performing on Saturday as part of the three-day Golden Spike festival, spent some time across the country last year with Swollen Members, Sweatshop Union, Moka Only and Kyprios, a Juno-award nominee.
And soon the Centennial secondary grads will be back on the road with Apathy and Celph Titled (aka Vic Mercer), of Florida.
In August, the pair hopes to find enough time in their schedules to launch their second album, Long Run Home, and solo projects. "We want to have lots and lots of product out there," Thorn said from his sound studio, Paranoyd. "It's important to us to have a visible presence in the market."
Long Run Home, which will be sold at Golden Spike in advance of the release date, contains 12 songs and is more rock 'n roll than their debut, Our Present Future. "The last one had more of a party vibe," Thorn said. "With this new work, it's still upbeat, motivational and positive. We're looking up, not down. It's a little bit tougher but it's still very clean in terms of hip hop today.
Thorn added, "We're not very happy with the way most hip hop bands are going. We're not trying to become misogynists or put anything out there that is violent."
As for their Port Moody show, Thorn said it will appeal to all ages and will include guest artists who collaborated on Long Road Home, namely Kurt Scott and Attikus.
• Indelible appears on the Golden Spike Days stage at Rocky Point Park on June 29 at 5 p.m. For the festival line-up, visit goldenspike.ca/entertainment/schedule.

Indelible's album "Our Present Future" has passion, beats you love, and lyrics that had real meaning unlike many so called "hip hop" artists. The first song (single) "Gets Me High" sets the stage for their sound, lyrics are positive with a great message which is the meaning of hip hop. Next we have "Down That Road", a little darker but staying true to their well groomed and tight style with showing some true hip hop style. Indelible also fuses some rock riffs with their sound creating the song "Fast Lane" yet keeping their own unique sound. The whole album has variety and diversity in music but keeps their uniform landscape. The Indelible sound keeps you listening, throw in a few cameos by Moka Only, Blaming Taylor, and a few more and you have a great album. Though I caught a few samples in the mix that could be done without since they have talent! It's still true hip hop that is a must have for everyone! - Vandala Concepts

Searching for album releases today, I stumbled upon a Canadian hip hop group known as Indelible. After hearing just a few tracks from their debut album, titled Our Present Future, I was sure glad I did. This duo consists of brothers JT420 (J Thorn) and Illucid, formerly of the Vancouver area hip hop group Reverse Priorities. The two have been working together for many years now but it seems like they finally found the sound they were looking for. Their exceptionally smooth and upbeat style kept me listening intently to this album. - www.goodishmusic.com

Vancouver brothers J Thorn and Illucid lay down a mountain of music on its latest 16-track album. The duo wastes nary a beat getting into the music too. The opener "Our Present Future" is a tense and slightly claustraphobic slow burner that flows right into the smooth R&B bumper "One Night" with its play on the Eagles' "One of These Nights" in its chorus. Later on "Watchin'" they flip around an old Suzanne Vega loop to great affect on a nightclub ready track. The disc moves from strength to strength too with some guest turns from Moka Only, Blaming Taylor, Jahranimo and Lil' Precious. They say they wanted to make an album you'd leave on the machine at a party and they've got it. Grade: B+ - The Vancouver Province

Originality: 98
Does the song stand out conceptually? Give a new twist on a universal theme?
Originality Comments:
fun. Love the slow intro that kicks into a faster groove. I'm taking this as a developed artist sound. You can pitch it to someone else but it's ready to go as is imo. Catchy, fun, lives in it's own world.
Composition: 98
Does the song structure lend itself to the best presentation of the song?
Composition Comments:
Love the chord on high. Unexpected to hear the minor there. Not only is everything in the right place it's good that great arc from section to section. Appealing.
Melody: 98
Is the melody strong, memorable, likable? appropriate & consistent with the theme?
Melody Comments:
Nicely done. The chorus doesn't rise much in pitch but the breathing space and catchy vibe make it totally memorable. It doesn't feel pushed or like it's trying to be anything it's not. Confident.
Lyrics: 98
Are the lyrics witty, humerous, poignant? (depending on intent)
Lyrics Comments:
I usually don't love songs about writing songs because it's too self referential. But you're taking me into your wonderful world. Doing it for love rather than material gain is appealing.
Phrasing: 98
Is there any awkward emphasis on certain words / notes?
Does the song seem to flow nicely from phrase to phrase?
Phrasing Comments:
You're doing it right. You'd be surprised how many ppl use Walk-ING instead of WALK-ing. Nice marriage of words and melody.
Overall Impact: 98
Overall Comments:
Really loving this tune. The verses do what verses are supposed to do and the chorus makes me want to sing along. Besides loving the song, the production and performance are wonderful. Get yourself in tv/film placements and on the charts. Wishing you success. - Indie International - reviewer Martin Blasick
