Hailing from Sacramento, the capital of California, Ill Logik. got his start behind the scenes as a teen with an independent record label called Black Market Records. But life was not easy. Growing up in a gang-filled neighborhood, every day was a chance it could be your last. From school, to work at the label, and back to the hood, Ill Logik. saw life from a few different perspectives early on.
At Black Market Records Ill Logik. worked directly with the company’s President, Cedric Singleton and his artists. Through this experience Ill Logik. was able to see both sides of the label / artist relationship. He took note of the various struggles and accomplishments & learned from them, thus enhancing his ability to be a strong presence within the label. Through the results of his contributions Ill Logik. was able to help push artists like Mr. Doctor and the Cold World Hustlers record sales beyond 100,000 units independently. As well as contributed to the success of the flag ship artist Brotha Lynch Hung’s sales to gold status without national radio and minimal video play. But ill Logik. wanted more. Music had always been his first passion. Out of respect for the artistry, Ill Logik. decided to keep at it behind the scenes determined to get his skills up to compete and possibly take over.
When situations in Ill Logik.’s life went from bad to worse he decided it was time for a change. Ill Logik. relocated to a suburb of Los Angeles. At 18, he began working as an intern for Capital Records, and then later migrated to Virgin Records. Due to the restructuring of EMI, many artists, labels, and employees were shuffled. Still determined Ill Logik. stayed focused. In his spare time Ill Logik. began producing for people around the neighborhood, promoted parties, and talent shows all the while continuing to improve his craft, writing. After a few years had passed Ill Logik. received a call to return to Black Market Records. On the heel of Ill Logik.’s return, Black Market Records was able to see it’s most profitable years ever.
After putting the company “back in the black” , Ill Logik. felt it was his time to go it on his own. With his partner Sir D.B., Ill Logik. formed 100% Entertainment and released his debut album “The Lost Child” which sold “out the trunk”. Soon after was the release of Ill Logik.‘s sophomore LP “The Illness” . Striving to walk in the pathway of the trailblazers without falling victim to their perils is Ill Logik.’s focus. Ill Logik. is ready to compete. Ill Logik. is ready to take over.
