From the beginning, we wanted to try to incorporate as many people of color—especially women—into the movie. That was very important to us, as a production that had quite a few black female department heads. Melanie Nichole Halfkenny born on August 9th (AKA) 5ive is an American recording artist, song writer, and entertainer. Born in Boston, Massachusetts.
5ive spent most of her teenage to adult life in the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) area. 5ive grew up listening to all different type of genres of music and began singing at the age six. 5ive was deeply affected by her father’s addictions and began to channel her pain through writing music. 5ive found her voice, and began singing for close friends and family members for fun. During her youth, 5ive was enrolled in voice lessons, and would perform at weddings, with her church choir, and at school music events.
In addition, not only did 5ive have a passion for writing and singing, but 5ive also loved to dance. Dancing came natural to 5ive at only 3 years of age. 5ive would create choreography for the dance, and step teams she joined at the boys and girls club she attended. Throughout junior and high school, 5ive received first place in numerous talent shows, and best solo performances. From then on, 5ive was determined to be an entertainer.
In 2003, 5ive developed one of her many talents, which was writing songs to instrumentals. In 2009, 5ive discovered her lyrical skills and began to rap as well as sing. 5ive started recording her own music in 2011. When 5ive is not in the studio she is at home raising her two beautiful children. 5ive works as a professional makeup artist while she is currently pursuing her music career. 5ive has performed at showcases in ATL, Washington DC and NC and is currently planning future showcases all over the US and Overseas.
In addition to showcases 5ive has performed at a host of popular venues such as Howard Theatre and has had her music showcased on a variety of radio shows including national radio via 95.5 WPGC. 5ive is currently an independent artist.In 2017 5ive released a dope EP called In My Feelings which was released via Empire Distribution who she currently has a distribution deal with. Presently 5ive is working on her second EP and is also diving head first into the acting world and has landed a major role in upcoming Universal Film , Queen and Slim which is written by the Emmy award winning writer Lena Waithe.
