Bio
A 3 piece band formed out of a studio project. After singer/songwriter Chelsea Austin finished her 5 song EP she was in need of players to make the songs happen live. Pulling from the progeny of her studio writing partner John Davis, she found Steele Davis: young, talented, raw, hungry. They experienced immediate playing and writing chemistry and were able to finish the rest of the album in a 2 month period. Long-time neighbor and friend of Steele's, Ian Douglas, jumped in one afternoon for a jam on drums with the 2 piece and again an instant connection occurred.
Now gigging to any and all who'll listen, this 3 piece is on their way to a retro-fitted, angry, bluesy style.
Pulling from lyrical ingenue Joni Mitchell and blues waller Etta James, Chelsea's direction is social poetry with a serrated vocal blade.
Enter Steele, a dedicated student of Tom Morello's dangerously funky and dirty riffs, and one quickly finds the roots of their brooding tones.
With a jazz degree underway, Ian's approach is jazzy funk that could be tastefully applied to a rock setting--he lists Terry Bozzio, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Chester Thompson as a few of many in his influences list.
You can catch HootNannY at their myspace page for all future performance dates.
They are so new they are still dew-y.
