This Ottawa-area quartet plays laid-back rock that wouldn’t be out of place at an art school year-end gallery or in an opening slot for Wilco. That said, the band’s brand of indie rock is accessible enough that one might wonder why they aren’t already a name on college campuses across the country.
Actually, there is a good reason why they aren’t as popular as they should be, and that reason is that they’ve only just released their first album. Leaving Fallow Field was self-released by the band in 2010. The album saw a few of its tracks pick up for rotation on CBC Radio 2 and 3 as well as finding a place on the Earshot! campus charts. The band is currently holed up writing a follow-up to their debut, which should be out in the first half of 2011. While the band hasn’t announced what, if any label, will be releasing the unnamed record, it’s something few labels interested in dreamy pop songs will want to pass on.

The album title - Leaving Fallow Field - refers to a point in time when a personal decision was made to begin performing and creating music again and to leave a musically barren time in life behind. The dandelion album cover art for the album leaving fallow field attempts to convey that message.

The hinterlandband live set has come as a result of the additions of: Marc Leblanc on bass/vocals, Damon Criger on synths/keys, and Robin Pinkerton percussion/vocals.
Marc Leblanc is a definitive bass man who brings an extensive indie rock palette of rhythm and melody.
Damon Criger has brought lush arrangements to life with his contribution to the keybords and synths.
Multi – instrumentalist /vocalist Robin Pinkerton plays drums in live performance but has also lent his mandolin and banjo playing skills to some recordings.
Colin Wylie sings lead and plays guitar. Colin was the drummer of the band ‘Blinker the Star’ – critically acclaimed 90’s Canadian alt rock band. Colin has recorded and played with members of The Dears, Sam Robert Band and shared the stage with Oasis, The Flaming Lips, etc.

Since the inception of the hinterland band, the songs on leaving fallow field have taken a much more ethereal departure from the production sound of the album, however, both live set and record are very much in compliment to one another - both should be experienced.
