"Duffy's Tavern"

Last night I was in attendance to see Ravyn Red, littleSUNDAY and Highway Lights. The Venue was Duffy’s Tavern which is where I’ll begin this review. This intimate bar features an area with a stage which at max capacity could probably jam around 100 people or so into there, while the extra would spill out into the bar area a few steps below. The actual bar itself had a very grungy, rock feel to it as the lighting was dim, there were random holes in the wall and somewhat messy everywhere. However it all played into the genre of the bands rather nicely.

First off was Ravyn Red. Unfortunately there were not to many people on hand for the start of their set. However that was the missing audiences loss as this band rocked from start to finish!! Playing a mix of original songs and covers Ravyn Red kept you thoroughly entertained throughout. Their original song ‘Smell The Roses’ was extremely well done and was one of their best original songs in our opinion. What really blew us away were Melissa’s stunning vocals on the bands covers of ‘Titanium’ by David Guetta Ft. Sia and ‘Bad Romance’ by Lady Gaga. Her vocal range on ‘Bad Romance’ was extremely impressive and the bands overall take on the song made it a fun experience for the audience. Overall they kicked off the show with a bang and did not disappoint, there next show is August 23rd @ The Comfort Zone and I suggest you be in attendance if you live in the GTA!!! Check out their original song ‘Hypocrite’ on their Facebook page : http://www.facebook.com/ravynred/app_6452028673

Next up was littleSUNDAY. This band with their large following attracted what seemed like the biggest crowd of the three bands. Their veteran stage presence allowed the audience to really interact with their set and join in, whether it was singing the lyrics or clapping to the beat, the crowd was rocking. littleSUNDAYS set was extremely driving as they smashed out song after song, as if they could go all night. All around the band did an amazing job!! Our favorite song from their set was ‘Wait For Tomorrow’, to check it out head to their ReverbNation page and have a listen!! http://www.reverbnation.com/artist/artist_songs/1263

The lead singer Rick said in the show that, “the band has been hiding in their bedroom”. Well myself as well as the crowd was certainly happy that they decided to come out because they put on a great show and I for one am looking forward to seeing them in the near future!!

And last but not least to close out the night was Highway Lights. When these boys started playing the crowd almost instantaneously rose to their feet and started partying. Opening with their two hit songs ‘Disappear’ and ‘Run With Me’ the crowd was pumped and the energy was nothing short of electric. Lead singer Josh let the crowd know that he had, “A demon in his throat”, but that didn’t slow him down. I give him props for staying up their and belting out song after song!! When the band was notified that the fourth and final band was a no show, they decided to continue playing which was a real treat for the crowd!! Highway Lights brought amazing energy to the stage and to its audience, thus making it a fun set from start to finish!! They have a few shows in the upcoming weeks, so if you have the chance be sure to get out and get rocking!! Check out and like their Facebook page to stay in touch with everything Highway Lights!! http://www.facebook.com/HighwayLights - March to the beat

"Gotta Follow Those Highway Lights"

If you don’t know the band I am referencing then listen, well read carefully. This is one of those scenarios where you will be talking with your friends down the road and say, “I saw/heard them when they were just starting out”. So to catch everyone up the band is called ‘Highway Lights’ and is comprised of five members. Originating from Toronto the band is nothing short of unique. To put a genre to them is no easy task, one would jump to rock/ alt rock, however their musicality suggests a mash up of many genres, thus making the band ear candy for true music lovers. The best advice i can give is to just listen to what this bands about. - March to the beat

Bio

Highway Lights is a five piece band that originated in the suburbs of Toronto in late 2010. To be described solely as a rock band would be selling this bands melodic and unique sound short. Although rock is their primary genre, fans and critics alike have agreed that Highway Lights sound is in a sub genre of their own.

Their sound boasts three powerful guitars, groovy bass lines and diverse drum rhythms that help shape their sound which not only differentiates themselves from other rock bands, but is shown from song to song in their catalogue. Highway Lights focuses on patient climactic builds and creates their music with a versatility that is constantly changing pace, yet is always identifiably Highway Lights.

Lyrically, Highway Lights songs theme around the struggles of everyday life highlighting the trials and tribulations of relationships audiences can identify with. Highway Lights writing style is a complete package, pairing these real and relatable stories with their elevating melodic style.

Highway Lights' debut EP "Go" has been received with high praises and earned regular playing time on stations such as Outcast Radio, KIT21, Mediazoic, Hooah! Radio, Bandsoup, Krankit Radio, Museboat Radio and MusicLynk Radio. The band was also an Indie Bus Featured Artist of the Month and has airplay on an FM Radio show in Los Angeles InDspotlight Radio.

Highway Lights musicOnce you hear it... The heart and soul behind every beat, every note, every word overwhelms you, to the point of no return. You will crave for more of what they offer... A genre of their own Soul Screaming!
~DJ Snowy (Outcast Radio)
