Our TapSongz Team continues to find new up and coming artists who are devoted to perfecting their sound and growing their fan base to reach the next level. 2019 has been a strong year for music thus far and we continue to find strong up and coming talent. We recently came across Hickman L.A. and had the opportunity to interview the rising artist.
Hickman L.A., as his name suggests, is from Los Angeles, CA and grew up in Highland Park, which is northeast of downtown. "I remember writing my first song, with a complete hook and three verses, at about age 15," the hip-hop artist told our team. "It was the beginning of me writing in structured format. I clearly remember there being three 12-Bar stanzas and the flow and everything," he added. Hickman L.A.'s sound further progressed to the point where he had a legitimate following. He started to do shows at universities such as Auburn and Alabama and was an opening act for Wale, Kid Ink, Juicy J, and more.
Fast forward to today and Hickman L.A. is ready to reach a new level. His latest project "Just So you Know" is a brand new EP and drops May 31. "It is a seven track EP of some of the best songs I've written over a span of a month. I put money and time into making sure this was a project I could push to the masses with confidence," he said. Currently residing in Atlanta, Hickman L.A. notes the massive amount of talent in the local market with a busy landscape of artists trying to make it. Our TapSongz Team had a chance to give the full EP a listen and were deeply impressed.
The EP starts out with the single "Just So You Know", the piano being so catchy and a beat that will have you reminiscing to throwback rap. Hickman L.A. goes hard on the beat and we loved how the project started out. "Come Up" was also one of our favorite tracks where Hickman L.A. throws in some amazing autotune. The rhymes are creative and the rapper brought everything together so creatively. This EP was certainly one of our favorites and we think it'll open up big doors for the rising California artist.
Hickman L.A. plans to push the new EP through local Atlanta shows in the coming months and already has two shows booked. "I love performing in Atlanta simply because people are so open-minded and craving new music for indie artists either to find the next big thing or just for the love of unknown music," the hip-hop artist told our TapSongz Team.
Everyone be sure to give "Just So You Know" a listen, which can be found on all major platforms! Toss Hickman L.A. a follow on Twitter to stay up to date with his latest releases and shows! We see big things ahead for the rapper and can't wait to see what he is able to accomplish throughout the rest of 2019. Here at TapSongz, we thank you for reading this feature article as we continue finding tomorrow's greatest music today! - Eric Rustad

Bio
Hickman L.A. is a Los Angeles born MC, influenced by the depths of Tupac's lyrics and the consciousness/imagery of Lupe Fiasco. After meeting Lupe in 9th grade and hearing Lupe (Hickman's favorite rapper) tell him that he was going to be creating Hip Hop after Lupe retires was all the drive Hickman L.A. needed to take his craft seriously. He has stayed true to his insightful lyrics about his community, society and how he can use his words to heal the wounds of his people. At the same time, he uses the competitiveness, hunger, and fearlessness that he learned from Tupac to craft witty metaphors and bars (combined with a love for flow) that proves he can hold his own with the best of wordsmiths. At Tuskegee University, he built a following and released his first solo mixtape, Just A Start: Reconstruction. in May 2019,he released his debut EP "Just So You Know', which has received high praise from both peers and hip hop heads alike. He currently tours the Atlanta scene, building his brand and creating a reputation as a hardcore West Coast Lyricist.
