Early Beginnings
The story begins in Toronto, Ontario Canada, where two young sisters, Carcia and Telly Campbell would sit in the back of the car, singing to Whitney Houston, Madonna, Michael Jackson and countless other artists while accompanying their parents to church. “We’d love the rides to church because we got to listen to the radio and hear our favorite artists sing.” Telly says.
At young tender ages, both girls were encouraged to join the choir and learn music. Both parents were popular in the Canadian christian community, singing as a duo. At the time Carcia was beginning her training on piano, and Telly’s, was taking an interest in the bass guitar. When Mr. and Mrs. Campbell realized their girls would arrange vocals at home and sing for playtime, they began to put their girls on the church stage for special events.
Taking a liking to many other things, like writing, designing and acting (including musical theater), both Carcia and Telly, took time to educate themselves in different fields, but never left music behind. While in school the girls would sing separately, in groups and bands, winning awards, talent shows and compliments everywhere they performed. At this time they wrote and released an EP of inspirational music called, Morninglory.
The EP included 4 songs, 2 in which were released as singles on Canadian Christian radio. The CD also included a popular version of The Prayer.
NOW!
The soul and substance of gospel music was a driving force to Her Castle's vocal style, but with growing up comes new experiences and discoveries. With much thought and soul searching, the girls decided to write for a secular pop/r&b album. “This is what we really wanted to do all along, but maybe we didn’t have the confidence to sing about love, hate and problems at that time. Now, we’re ready. This is still a divine process for us. We still depend on higher power to write our words now,” Carcia says.
Performing as CarChan, the girls appeared last summer on Toronto, Ontario’s greatest fair stage, The CNE and debuted one of the songs that will appear on their upcoming album. The reception was great! What Her Castle has in store is a powerful pop album with sounds, arrangements and words they have worked hard at mastering. Expect songs for the dancehallers, songs for the weak giving up on love, songs about betrayed friendship and everything in-between. The mix will display the vast amount of different music the girls listen to from oldies pop & r&b, modern rock, dance to 90s R&b.
