Bio
"Heather Morgan is a great songwriter, charting complex emotional landscapes with a few deft simple phrases. In my opinion her country-soul songs...are in league with those of Lucinda Williams and Ryan Adams. Like those artists she's a natural, an original and unmistakably distinctive." -Howard Druckman, music journalist (Chart Magazine, EYE Weekly, Umbrella Music, SOCAN)
Timeless. A word a little over used these days perhaps, one often ill applied, but in Heather Morgan's case extremely apt and well fitting. An incredibly versatile singer-songwriter with a soaring voice and song writing style that variously tips its hat to the traditions of country, jazz, bluegrass, folk and blues influences, yet remains beyond the grip of genre. Songs of lost love, blue hued and whiskey soaked; Murder Ballads combed from forgotten stories long past; up tempo swing numbers recalling the the great jazz age; R&B tinged country-soul, all combine, heart-felt and true, to take the listener on a journey through the emotional spectrum.
She is supported in live performance by her band The Company of Men. A collective of highly talented musicians including multi-instrumentalists Nichol Robertson and Rob Fenton, seasoned stand-up diva Rachel Melas and "the most charming man in show business" Cam Giroux; all of whom lend their own unique and skilled musical voice to bring you music that is emotive AND entertaining!
Heather & The Company Of Men have been showcased at NXNE, Canadian Music Week, Ontario Council Of Folk Festivals Conference (official showcase) to name but a few. With a brand new recording on the way the band is set for take off!
"Heather Morgan is the genuine article. One of the 'real' voices in Canadian music."
-Bruce Farley Mowat (music journalist -Hamilton Spectator, The Globe & Mail, Eye Weekly, Black to Comm, www.inmusicwetrust.com)
"Heather Morgan has a beautiful voice to complement her violin playing in front of her band, the Company of Men. By blending alternative country, folk, jazz-swing, and bluegrass elements in her music, this lovely lady writes songs that sound old but aren't." - Playback STL (St Louis, Mo, USA)
"Fiddlin' songbird Heather Morgan has crossed back and forth between roots rock, folk, bluegrass and jazz, but the brassy balladeer proved....she could hold her own in any country honky-tonk, especially now that she's backed by her stacked Company of Men support group." Tim Perlich NOW Magazine
