"Hue at Rancho Relaxo NXNE 2012"

There was a lot of love for London, ON's Hue as the crowd seemed to double in size right before their set. The band's mellow pop songs washed over an enthusiastic core of friends, family, and fans as they noisily egged the band on. Jessica Paton was squee-worthy as she bounced behind the keys, her girlish, clear voice complementing the exuberant vocals by frontman (and brother to Jessica) Danny Paton and punchy bass by Andrew Jones. "You Will Be" was moving and triumphant with its harmonized group vocals. The crowd saw a different side of Hue when they broke out the R&B with a cover of Drake and Rihanna's "Take Care" — we already knew they were fun, but their affinity for rap made them that much more adorable. - Sticky Magazine

"Hue rocks Halifax Pop Explosion"

Thursday night seemed primed for disaster from the start. After barely escaping an encounter with a giant puddle, I experienced further mishap with a generously prepared falafel pita and when Dan and I arrived at Tribeca at 7 pm for Hue we overheard a gentleman, who we assumed to be the stage manager, making an emergency call for a sound tech. We were stoked on the lineup so we decided to have a seat and drink and beer and waited to see if the situation would resolve itself. The band was able to go on, about forty minutes behind schedule, and before they even played a note Dan and I were both impressed by how patient and optimistic they were about the setbacks, chatting amiably with the tech who was called in as the poor guy scrambled to pull things together.

I have to say that Hue was definitely worth the wait. A five piece group featuring the vocals (and dancing) of Danny Paton, Hue is the kind of upbeat, melodic pop that makes you want to smile and tap your feet. The crowd was thin at Tribeca for their set, but the people who were there were upfront and dancing. The members of Hue brought an infectious and almost bubbly energy to the stage, though I did worry at times that Patton was going to dance through the mic stands or into the drum kit behind him. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the tech, the sound never really came together and when the set ended I felt that I and the audience alike had missed out on the complexity of their sound. That said, I was certainly convinced that I’d catch this band again and give their discography a strong listen based on their enthusiasm and grace, so maybe this show was exactly what it should have been. - two way monologues

"Hue CD Review"

Hue's eponymous release is as much a showcase for singer-songwriter Danny Paton as it is for the group as a whole. Not only did Paton compose the CD's nine pop-rock originals, but he also provides strong lead vocals on all of them.

That said, one should not discount the solid contributions of guitarist Aaron Lozynsky, bassist Darcy Finck and drummer Andrew Schmidt. They all had a hand in the arrangements which display a level of sophistication that's rare in a band so young.

The fact that the group utilizes the talents of Orchestra London violinist Mary-Elizabeth Brown on four tracks proves this is one outfit that likes to think outside of the typical rock-box.

Produced by Mikey T at the People's Palace studio, this is an impressive outing from one of London's more creative groups.

"Top 10 London Albums of 2007"

10. hue: hue (Self-released)

Hue is a young band with a fine singer-songwriter Danny Paton at its helm. Guitarist Aaron Lozynsky, who is also a visual artist, bassist Darcy Finck and drummer Andrew Schmidt collaborate on the arrangements.

Idealism and enthusiasm carry the day on song after uplifting song. And two important allies help keep hue's debut in focus. They're Orchestra London violinist Mary-Elizabeth Brown, a guest on four tracks, and Michael (Mikey T) Tompkins who brought out hue's best at the People's Palace studio.

Words to live by: "Between you and me, I've seen what you're capable of. Don't you give in to all of your fears."

"Hue Live"

On Dec. 26, I'd been out to Call the Office to hear Hue, fine young London band with Danny Paton singing and guitaring.

Andrew Schmidt was on drums and bassist and backup vocalist was Darcy Finck, whose family includes an old elementary school classmate, Dale Carter.

Special guest as she is on Hue's fine CD was Orchestra London violinist Mary-Elizabeth Brown playing for the first time at Call the Office. She sounded great and has been named concertmaster - to go with all her other endeavours - by the Britten fest orchestra at Aldeburgh, England.

Bio

As of today, Hue is comprised of lead singer/songwriter Danny Paton Jr, guitarist Darcy Finck, bassist Andrew Jones, and Andy Schmidt on drums. The sound of Hue circles around an array of genres, ranging from rock, to folk, to melodic pop. However, the group remains thoughtful when sonically crafting each song, keeping vocals, harmonies, soft synth lines, a strong rhythmic presence and complimentary guitar work at the forefront of the writing process. These elements merge in harmony to create a sound that is distinct to Hue.

Hues live show always proves to be an exciting one for crowds of any size in nearly any venue. The band combines exuberant energy with unique live tactics that excite and involve fans of any musical taste. Over their career, the band has supported acts such as We Are Wolves, The Wooden Sky, Two Hours Traffic, Lights, Said The Whale, Hollerado, The Spades, Paper Lions, Library Voices, Hey Ocean, and numerous others.

Aside from their love for each other and their listeners, Hue truly have a passion for music and will continue to write and perform well into the future.

The lone elephant, who usually is accompanied by the traveling herd, has decided to wonder on their own path. Feelings of confusion, loss and the unknown fill the mind of the animal, yet these are Good Fears.

These themes occur throughout the record on such songs as Boats, One With the Night and Wandering. However, the beast soon realizes this world is something to be discovered and that being afraid of the unknown can lead to wonderful experiences of love, loss and friendship as heard in the lyrics of Match Made, Century and Trumpeteer.

Walking down any new path can be fraught with worry, but these fears can lead to incredible life experiences.
