Groove Shoes Funk Orchestra, the culmination of an entire pallet of influences, consists of musicians from Massachusetts, California, Vermont, and Oklahoma. Formed in early 2010 when Sam French(drums, guitar) began talking with Michael Gleason(guitar) about starting a groove oriented soul/jazz/funk group. Sam had played with DeAngelo Nieves(trumpet, alto sax, guitar, backing vox) in an earlier band, DeAngelo went to college and had performed in several ensembles with Molly Steinmark(vox, drums, percussion), and Michael had attended Marlboro with Matt Clegg(bass). The core of Groove Shoes had formed. After a bit of searching, the group connected with Pat Garland (Keys) and the sound was complete.
Groove Shoes is based in Western Ma/Southern VT, an area with a rich culture and tradition of music and arts in general. Traveling throughout the Northeast, Groove Shoes regularly plays in Boston/Cambridge, and New York City. Groove Shoes will be touring Summer 2011 throughout the Eastern U. S.
The self-titled debut album, recorded at Playonbrother Studios with engineering and mixing genius Alan Evans(Soulive), promises to please and will be stuck in your head. The record features seven original tunes written by Sam and Molly, as well as a surprising twist on the Gershwin classic Summertime. The undeniable, unstoppable Nigel Hall makes several appearances, and Alan Evans fills in on percussion. This album is packed full of energy and will make you want to send the album back to the top. Be on the look out for the spring release date.
