Great Lakes

Comprised of Liam Murray on drums, Kyle and Alex Smith on guitar, and vocalist Taylor Brown, Great Lake's haven't reinvented the wheel but are sure as hell keeping it spinning with this EP. With an upcoming release slotted for March 2013, this band is definitely one to look out for.

Oddly enough, I saw these guys live at the Little Bean in Kitchener and hadn't heard much about them at the time. As I listened to their set I was very impressed, and now listening to the recordings I don't see a huge difference. That is always something I appreciate in a band - it helps me gain respect for them and it makes for a great show.

Based on recordings and their live performance, this band is fundamentally sound. Nothing is super boring or played sloppily, but in contrast this EP is not groundbreaking. On that note they may believe that if it's not broke, don't fix it. Some people are content with playing it safe, I don't blame them, but for their next piece I think they should bring the WOW factor they are missing.

Since the fall of popular Burlington metalcore act Dead And Divine, I think the throne is open for Canadian hardcore bands. These guys have the potential to get there; they just need to refine some things, as anyone does after a first release. The raw potential is there, they just need to add a memorable chorus or two and really solidify their own sound so people know what to expect from them. - Breakdown Magazine
