Gov is a Toronto-based artist, but that fact may not be immediately obvious. He’s originally from London, UK, as his accent reveals, and on his debut EP, he’s blending the cold, mechanical trap sound dominant in Toronto with elements of grime and R&B.
The Nights EP includes features from rising rappers Amir Obe and Ye Ali, and production by Syk Sense, Jaegen, EY, NYLZ, and DNYL EVST, who all help Gov craft a nocturnal journal, documenting first-hand experiences as a young creative in Toronto. It's surprisingly varied for a relatively brief project, showcasing a brand new voice with much to offer.
“The whole EP plays out as a ‘night in the life of...’ type of thing, with what can be expected when you’re a young artist living in a city like Toronto,” Gov told Complex. “Some songs are based off of relationships I’ve been in, others inspired by mixing liquor and drugs, or one night stands. I feel Nights has a lot of aspects that people can relate to, especially young people in the city.”

Bio
GOV is a UK born, Toronto based R&B artist, songwriter and rapper. Earlier this year he released his debut EP 'Nights' via Complex to widespread positive acclaim and featured artists such as Ye Ali and Amir Obe with production by Syk Sense (Drake, Bryson Tiller, Travis Scott), Jaegen (Ramriddlz, ZAYN) and more. His numbers and online presence has since increased extremely and has gotten a substantial amount of media coverage. GOV's 'Nights - EP' infused elements of R&B, PB R&B and trap music and upon its release via Complex during March 2016 was well received by fans and critics alike as GOV managed to craft his own sound.
Following this GOV built his brand in Toronto by making small guest type appearances during shows and events by other artists. GOV remains shrouded in mystery as he works on his follow up EP 'The Roses' which marks his transition into a more contemporary R&B / alternative electro lane. GOV cites his new sound influenced by being born in London and absorbing the more electro heavy music scene and rave culture and the darker, moodier vibes from living in Toronto. Recently GOV played his first headline performance in Toronto to a crowd of around 100 people where he debuted a lot of his new material to positive reviews from those in attendance.
