"Catchy indie/punk EP from all-girl Brissie band Girl With Cake, as their name suggests, do possess an element of sweetness, primarily in the form of sugary vocal harmonies and pretty violin lines; however, their overall sound is more Rocky Road than Victorian Sponge. The latest EP from this local indie/punk outfit is rather Grates-esque in flavour, but with a fuller sound, less polish and a healthy dose of aggression. Strike The Clock is easily of Grates calibre, if not better, winning points for its nonchalance. Revolution is an angst-riddled number, featuring refrains of I've had enough/I've had enough (a reference to too much cake perhaps?). It's clear these girls know what they're doing, showcasing nice guitar work on Knife and Death To Friendship, overlaid with shouty punk verses and pretty harmonised choruses. Scars is a slightly darker number combining ominous bass lines, violin, piano and some dirty guitar, providing a satisfying end to what in all is a pretty impressive release."

"Recorded in just one day and mixed another, the yummiest-named, hard-rockingest girls in ol’ Brisbane town slaughter their way through five killer tracks on the Stick To Your Guns EP. Taking no prisoners with all guns ablazing, these kick-ass lasses have combined their collective punk-rock attitudes to rip the genre a new hole. The opening ‘Strike The Clock’ launches itself from the speakers, promptly smacking you in the face, while EP centrepiece ‘Knife’ has that sweetly-melodic/crunchy-hardness that Spiderbait used to do oh so well. ‘Death To Friendship’ features a spot of piano and some sweeping violin. Killer riffs, throbbing bass and crashing drums, I sure look forward to seeing this one live."

Girl With Cake's most recent release 'Forget Me, Rot' was released in March 2011 at The Zoo, Fortitude Valley, QLD.
Girl With Cake are currently climbing the charts of Triple J Unearthed with some of the tracks from this release.
Girl With Cake's EP 'Stick to Your Guns' was released in March 2007. Timeoff and Rave Magazine applauded the release in their reviews. Tracks from this EP are regularly played on 4zzzfm.
The girls also recorded a film clip for the track "Strike the Clock" from this release.
"Strike the Clock" has also been used in the Melboourne based interactive Entertainment series "Girl Friday". This track was also used in the bodyboarding flick "Australian Made".
"The First Cut" was a raw demo recording released in 2006 featuring four tracks.
"Pony Club" was released in 2005. It is a half hour set that was sponsored by 4zzzfm as part of the Live To Air program. The set was performed live in a studio and played back on air.
All three releases have been available for purchase at Skinny's and Rockinghorse in the Brisbane CBD.
Girl With Cake are current entrants in TripleJ's unearthed.
Girl With Cake have also entered some of the tracks from these releases on the interactive chart listings on mp3.com.au
They have topped the charts on mp3.com.au for many months running.

Brisbane Indie Punk/Rock Outfit, Girl With Cake consists of members; Ella Kliendienst (guitar) Sarah Vardy (guitar, keys and vocals), drummer Ty Noble and their newest member, Jasmin Fiske (bass, violin and vocals).
The band began playing gigs in 2005 as an all-girl three piece but have gone through many changes to arrive at their current line-up as a four piece, with the Sarah and Ella a new drummer, Ty and the latest addition Jaz on the violin, bass and vocals. Girl With Cake describe their sound as a mighty mash of indie garage punk rock with many soft/heavy contrasts.
The girls have built an excellent reputation locally due to their awesome live performances that are packed with energy and enthusiasm.
The band have a wide array of influences such as Sleater Kinney, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Knife, Tori Amos, Dresden Dolls, Le Tigre, Nine Inch Nails and many more. In the past five years, the band have released two ep's, The First Cut (2005) and Stick To Your Guns (2006) aswell as an awesome live album produced thanks to Triple Z fm who helped them to make a recording through the Live To Air program which they released locally in 2005 as "Pony Club".
The band have supported an array of acts such as Regurgitator, Operator Please, and Gazoonga Attack.
Girl With Cake just released their new EP on Saturday March the 5th at The Zoo, 2011. Sarah is also currently putting together an animated film clip for one of Girl With Cake's most recent tracks. This is also set for release in 2011. The band will be working on a new album over the next few months due for release in late 2011. They are currently working on a tour to share the spoils of their most recent EP release Forget Me, Rot.
