Just as the disco movement once burned to the ground in Chicago, so is it capable of rising from the snow banks like an electro-glam phoenix. Fresh new North Side duo Girl Shy revives the throbbing, libidinal rhythms and decadent dance-floor emotions of the genre that was once eulogized by meathead sports nuts who immolated disco LPs on Comiskey field and left the genre for dead like a gangland hit... - Christopher Piatt - formerly of TimeOut

Bio
Girl Shy is a Chicago-based indie-electro rock band. Their new EP "Love Among Thieves," is available on iTunes and Amazon mp3.
A duo comprised of nightclub empress Tawny Newsome and programmer/guitarist Johnny Mathie, Girl Shy brings a hothouse disco aura backed by rich layers of acoustic and electronic sound. Fanned by the flames of Chicagos underground house sound, the duo has slipped into the changing room to try on a host of influences. Bjork, Radiohead, Stereolab, Beck, Trent Reznor, Crystal Castles, Bowie, the Pixies, Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, and Portishead are all notches on the groups iBedpost. Practically daring the listener to stay off the dance floor, Girl Shy blends all these contemporary rock elements into the kind of funky, groovy, danceable idiom that decades earlier scorched the tiles of the countrys hottest discotechs.
Composer, musician, programmer Johnny Mathie had been performing at clubs and colleges for years. A multi-faceted musician and engineer, he's also done programming and DJ work for Peter Gabriel on two world tours. His flexibility with genres ranging from folk to hip-hop to dance and world beats is what gives Girl Shy such an eclectic sound. Vocalist Tawny is also a DJ, shes been spinning beats from disco to hip-hop at some of Chicago's hottest clubs and parties.
