"Magazine Review"

I’ve been following Girl Peculiar's musical development for several years now and while I have always considered her immensely talented, (even her four chord teething songs could hold their own) her performance at the Alma Jam, far outstrips anything I’ve seen from her before. Her writing style, like her vocals, have matured considerably in the last year expressing a fine mix of humour, melancholy, sweetness, and a subtle anger all suitably backed with catchy, though not irritating melodies (quite a feat) and interesting rhythms all in all a solid and very enjoyable from a very beautiful, endearingly modest, and likeable young woman- shine on you crazy cubic zirconium.’

Bio

Biography
Girl Peculiar started gigging, not as a musician but as a backing dancer for an experimental comedy rock band named ‘What the Fuck’s a parsnip.’ Although she enjoyed dancing and making her extravagant costumes for ‘The Parsnips’ gigs, she quickly realised she wanted to make her own music. Girl Peculiar began writing then performing her songs around Bolton, Manchester, Salford and various festivals around the U.K. This resulted in the building of a following in her local area as well as grabbing the attention of several local radio stations.

With her red cherry suitcase in one hand and her guitar on her back, Girl Peculiar extended her musical wings, travelling as far a field as Australia and Tokyo. She took her ‘Neon Tokyo geisha girl act’ and performed at the notorious Ruby Room Tokyo. (Girl peculiar has also performed dance routines as well as her music at some of her gigs held at jazz, burlesque or theatre type venues). She has also taken her music to America and sang her songs on Hollywood Boulevard, Venice Beach and played at the ‘Burning Man’ festival - Nevada dessert.

Girl Peculiar is currently entering music competitions, such as ‘Live ‘n’ unsigned’ where she has got through to the regional final on the 29th March. She is preparing her ‘Girl Peculiar Student Union tour’ where she will be performing around as many of the U.K student unions as she can. She is also recording her fifth E.P entitled ‘Girls Girls, Girls’ this E.P is taking her music to a new and slightly more upbeat quirky direction. Within the next few months Girl Peculiar is planning to change her musical base from Bolton to London (Camden) to further pursue her musical career. She plans to build up a following in Camden and also play her music at burlesque events which are currently very popular in London.
