Who: Georgia Germein & The Germein Sisters
From: Adelaide, Australia
Where: The Drake Hotel
When: 11pm, Oct 11, 2012
Pre-show hype: Georgia Germein and her two sisters, Ella (back up vocal, bass, synth) and Clara (back up vocal, drums) have been getting more and more international recognition, finally recording an in Ireland this past summer with Billy Farrel (The Corrs).
Crowd: The crowd at the Drake was admittedly small, but definitely appreciative: they applauded lovingly at the end of each song, letting loose some hoots and cheers for the sisterhood trio, and taking the opportunity to get up close to the stage to take as many photos as possible.
Style: The girls play a mix of indie-pop infused with something almost like magic. They’re pop and folk in the same note, never-ending sweet melodies and of course, they sing beautifully.
Technicalities: Everything went off without a hitch.
Sex appeal: All that I can say is this: Accents! Cute outfits! Girls from Australia who can sing!
Mentionable song: “Take My Hand,” an internationally-acclaimed single from Georgia’s debut LP in 2010, was a big hit with the crowd.
Comments: Wow, these girls were so cute!

THE SCENE - Indie Week Canada
1. If you could get away with it, what song would you plagorize? Fleetwood Mac - Landslide
2. Worst instrument/vocal injury? Ella closed the boot of our van on her cello and snapped it in half!
3. Small indulgence you can’t live without? Georgia – ugg boots, Ella – cup of tea infront of some bad tv, Clara – heat wheat bag.
4. What did you collect as a child? Georgia – rocks, Ella – dolphin ornaments, Clara – snow globes.
5. At what point does a fan become a stalker? When they tell everyone they are engaged to you (this has actually happened!)
6. Most likely regrettable behaviour when you’ve had too many red cordials? Telling eachother random/personal jokes on stage then realizing the microphone is picking up everything we’re saying.
7. Famous school Alumni? DJ Minx
8. International Muso worthy of cameo at your Fringe Show? The Corrs.
9. Favourite musical memory? Singing Ella Fitzgeralds A-tisket A-tasket at the Strathalbyn Eisteddfod with our younger brother when we were aged four, five, six, & seven.
10. Favourite artist that everyone else has forgotten? Gumbo-ya-ya – our Dad’s New Orleans-style band. They are awesome (and hopefully not forgotten!)
11. Most impressive rock star moment that you wear like a badge of honour?

Judging by the massive sold-out line up half an hour before the show, I knew we were in for something special. Indroduced by Channel 9 Adelaide personality Brenton Ragless, the band style was aptly described as ‘indie acoustic pop rock’. Angelic sisters Georgia, Clara & Ella have been blessed with musical talent, empathy and insight. These three inspirational Adelaide youths send shivers down your spine with their beautiful music and lyrics that are filled with wisdom beyond their years. The eclectic ensemble of music took the audience on a journey of emotions, always balanced by the following song. They have rightfully earned airtime on triple j and ABC’s Rage, and I look forward to hearing more from Georgia Germein and the Germein Sisters… which is why I bought the album! - Rip It Up Magazine
About a year and a half ago, I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to listen to and review the debut album from Georgia Germein and to say that I became an instant fan is somewhat of an understatement.
Having heard what she could produce in the studio, I wanted to experience the live equivalent, so i joined the Facebook page and waited impatiently (unfortunately I missed out on this particular virtue) for her to play in Western Australia. Days turned into months, months into years and years into.... well you get the picture.
Fast forward to 2012 and with great excitement, I noticed a new event appear in my inbox with the word "National" followed by the word "Tour" at the top..... yes I did dance a little jig.
Woohoo, I was finally off to see the Germein Sisters live.
First up on the night was local singer/songwriter Ezereve who put on one of the best solo accoustic sets I have heard in a very long time. An incredible voice that to be perfectly honest, I wished would never stop..... that was until she started singing "The Angry Woman Song" which is when I just wanted to go hide all the sharp knives.
In all seriousness though, a very talented singer, with a a songbook full of beautifully written and performed songs and if you ever get the chance to hear Ezereve live, you should definitely not think twice
Next up were the eagerly anticipated Germein Sisters who if you want the short version... blew my socks from here to the middle of next week.
Playing to a very appreciative audience (and 1 drunken dropkick who tried to explain to everyone within a two block radius about how he the next UFC world champion, last seasons Australia's Top Model winner and NASA's top rocket scientist rolled up into one bumbling package that had some suspicious stains on the front of its pants) the sisters put on a performance that I will not be forgetting in a hurry..... They were simply sensational.
With incredible chemistry, and enough talent between the three of them to fill several dozen large sacks, it was this music lovers idea of heaven. They obviously enjoy performing and that energy was very infectious. my poor toes nearly tapped themselves into a coma.
Highlights of the night were many, but the vocal interplay between Georgia and Ella on "Take My Hand" was simply stunning and towards the end of the set, their performance of "Puppet" had my jaw heading straight for the floor.
Was it worth the wait...... most definitely (although it better not be this long before the head west again of I will be forced to blubber like a baby).
If you are lucky enough to have the Germein Sisters play near (ie the same state) you, dont miss the opportunity to see them play live... you won't regret it, I'll bet my sheep station on it. - AU Review

THE South Australian Tourism Commission is launching a Lara Bingle-style campaign to lure more international visitors to our state.
But instead of a bikini-clad blonde asking would-be travellers "so where the bloody hell are you?", three singing sisters from the Adelaide Hills have been charged with being the voices of South Australia.
The Germein Sisters are overseas at present and, while recording their debut album, will take time out to promote our state during their various gigs, and at SATC performances in cities such as Frankfurt and London.
Lead singer Georgia Germein's solo track Take My Hand will feature on a series of videos being produced to attract international visitors to SA.
In the past year to March, international travel to SA has decreased 9.6 per cent and the initiative is designed to arrest the slide, SATC international operations manager Sigrid Frede said.
The collaboration came about after the SATC took recommendations from Arts SA for SA-produced music.
Ms Germein's song was selected and when the SATC discovered she and her sisters, Ella, 22, and Clara, 23, were about to head overseas, pounced on the opportunity to forge a partnership.
"They're touring overseas in a market where we have a presence," Ms Frede said. "We'll invite some of our trade and media partners to their concerts or get them to play songs at our own events."
But Ms Frede said the girls would not feature in the videos visually, unlike Bingle.
"It's not all about the looks (and) while the girls are really beautiful, it's still about SA landscape, wildlife and having their music," she said. - Adelaide Advertiser
Australian Germein Sisters Recording Album in Skryne ~ Adelaide singers compared to Corrs
Three piece Australian band, the Germein Sisters, have spent the last month in Skryne where they have been recording an album at Stuart Gray’s Jealoustown Studios, with Billy Farrell, producer of The Corrs.
The girls have been impressed with the beautiful countryside, the friendly folk and the wonderful historic sites in Meath, recording all week and then exploring Ireland on the weekends.
Georgia Germein and the Germein Sisters are an Adelaide based sister band blending the raw beauty of indie/folk with the exuberance of pop/rock.
When recording finishes, they will tour Europe and then take the stage at Indie Week Toronto this month before heading home to Australia for summer and a string of performances.
Award-winning inspirational singer-songwriter 20 year-old Georgia Germein (vocals, guitar, piano, ukulele, violin) and her sisters Ella (backing vocals, bass guitar, synth, cello) and Clara (backing vocals, drums, guitar) combine the exhilarating rhythms of Florence and the Machine, with the shimmering harmonies of the Dixie Chicks, topped off with the heart of U2. They are dubbed the ‘Australian Corrs’.
Growing up together on a farm in the Adelaide Hills, with regular visits to nearby Australian beaches; Georgia, an Artist Associate with World Vision, a Youth Advocate for the Nature Foundation SA, and the Red Cross, also cares for orphaned kangaroo joeys in her spare time. Her songs draw on these experiences of growing up in South Australia; combined with her commitment to Indigenous Reconciliation, her work in the Kalahari, South Africa and Nepal as World Vision’s Youth Ambassador.
Her solo album ‘Take My Hand’ was rated 9/10 by the AU review; while her single ‘Puppet’ reached number 11 in the Triple J Pop Charts, receiving airplay on New York Radio.
Speaking and performing at over 80 schools in 2010 and touring Malaysia with a Concert Band, Georgia was thrilled to have her music videos receiving airplay on Australian television show ‘Rage’.
Her songwriting awards include seven ASME Young Composer awards, a semi finalist status in the International Songwriting Competition, a Premiers Award, a finalist status in the Australian Songwriting Competition, a semi finalist status in the Channel 9 Young Achievers Awards, multiple winner of SCALA’s songwriters award, and national winner of the Australian Red Cross Radio Competition.
The three girls are proud to be Ambassadors for South Australia. Twenty one year old Georgia’s song ‘Take My Hand’ has been selected for South Australia’s Tourism Commission international marketing campaign, which will be hitting all territories, including Ireland, in late September. - Meath Chronicle, Ireland

WHEN organisers were looking for Kangaroo Island Surf Music Festival acts, the Germein sisters fitted.
As well as talented musicians, the siblings are avid surfers and work as lifeguards and swimming instructors when not crafting original tunes.
"We love the water; we're always around it," lead singer-songwriter Georgia says.
"Clara's probably the best surfer ... but we all love checking out different beaches for waves."
The new three-day camping music fest, run in conjunction with the Kangaroo Island Pro surfing event, has attracted some of Aussie music's big names to Vivonne Bay, including The Beautiful Girls, The Holidays, Hungry Kids of Hungary and Van She.
"We're so excited, we can't believe we're going to be playing alongside some of those bands, it's going to be great," Georgia, 20, says. The gorgeous trio, who play under the name, The Georgia Germein Sisters, have been performing together for only about a year but are already making waves - pardon the pun.
Last month, they supported Australian legends Renee Geyer, Joe Camilerri and The Black Sorrows when they played in Adelaide.
Georgia even took her music to the Kalahari Desertand Nepal as World Vision's 2010 youth ambassador. - Adelaide Confidential, Adelaide Advertiser
ADELAIDE vocalist, musician and composer Georgia Germein has crammed a great deal into her 19 years, combining music with working in the Kalahari and Nepal as World Vision's 2010 Youth Ambassador.
Assisted with back-up vocals by sisters Clara on drums and Ella on keyboard and bass, Georgia has composed an impressive repertoire of songs. Many of these pieces came from their album, Take My Hand.
She accompanies herself on guitar or, more comprehensively, on piano, producing songs at the better end of the teen pop genre, using a variety of different rhythms and instrumental mixes.
With her purity of vocal tone and obvious musicality Georgia Germein has a bright future.

Georgia Germein played to a full house at the Promethean. The seating was cabaret style, with tables and chairs complemented by velvet cushions and mood lighting. It set a comfortable atmosphere; an apt venue to complement the performance.
Georgia Germein is extremely talented, and has established herself at a young age as a confident and practiced artist. Switching between acoustic and electric guitar and grand piano, Germein’s talents are accompanied by her equally gifted and gorgeous sisters, Clara on drums and vocals and Ella on bass, keyboard and vocals. This definitely is a family of young talents. Their chemistry on stage is clear, and slide from one song to the next seamlessly, always keeping the audience engaged and entertained. Germein’s style is soulful and her music and voice is reminiscent of The Cranberries/Angus & Julia Stone.
Germein offers information on some of her pieces, introducing them in context as to why she wrote them and what they are about. Adding some illumination on the songs was valuable to gaining a personal connection with the artist and the music, with a better understanding of Germein’s accomplishments. She explained to the audience that last year was filled with travelling, as she visited Nepal as World Vision’s Youth Ambassador and returned to speak in schools in NSW, VIC and SA about her experience; went to Africa as part of the Kalahari Experience to teach underprivileged high school students; and toured Malaysia on a music tour.
It is clear Germein is well travelled and has gained much life experience from this, and it is clear, too that this comes through her music. She has written her own songs – instrumental and lyrics – and the delicate, emotional and whimsical music is a clear indication of her maturity and dedication. The songs she performed are from her debut album, Take My Hand and each one is an emotional tribute to Germein’s life experiences. They are a combination of her social observations and personal experiences and this is what speaks deeply to the audience.
The theme of heart and home is followed across the entire album and in Germein’s explanations we learn just what these are. One song has been dedicated to her mother to comfort her while travelling abroad; another concerns the African children she worked with and not letting people forget them; and gives a voice to the disadvantaged children of Nepal, the words are what they might say if they were given a voice. It is sometimes confronting, but in a good way and the soulful, melodic sound moves you almost to tears. Germein’s social mind still looks to the future. She intends to tour the Northern Territory to remote communities and have Aboriginal artists support the performance.
This is one performance that comes with a message. Everyone in the audience will no doubt leave feeling a little more consciously and emotionally awakened.

Georgia Germein’s debut album, Take My Hand is something that straight out of the box, you know is going to be special. This 19-year-old from South Australia has managed to craft some incredibly beautiful songs, with maturity and self-awareness of someone twice her age.
On the surface it would be easy to tap your feet and sing along with the choruses, but each and every song is worth digging deeper into, taking the time to listen to the words, to discover slices of Germein’s life, to take a journey with her through some incredible soundscapes.
There is something here for everyone, from the delightfully upbeat "Wake Up" through to the country-ish "I’m Home" and the funky "Don’t Walk Away". Germein’s highly versatile and immensely powerful voice, crosses effortlessly from track to track and will leave you with RSI as you push repeat again and again and again.
There is such beauty in this album and I for one am a huge fan.
Do yourself a huge favor, go buy this album, lay back on the couch, close your eyes and let yourself drift off into the wonderful world that is Georgia Germein’s Take My Hand, I will wager a packet of pineapple lumps and my subscription to Hairstyles of the Rich and Famous that you wont regret it.

Merkel and Myrtle did not know anything about Georgia Germein before attending her Adelaide Fringe performance and Bliss Organic Garden Café. Merkel was attracted to this performance because of the venue. Bliss is an organic Café with a good hippie vibe to it and a number of exotic flavoured hot chocolates. The venue struggled a bit as a performance venue. The Garden was a little small for group of Georgia fans and staff struggled to keep up with food service before the show.
Georgia Germain was a star though. She has mastered guitars, keyboards, vocals and songwriting and still presents as an engaging teenager. She draws on unexpectedly deep experiences in Nepal, the Kalahari and Ethiopia and seems comfortable in front of an audience. She shared the limelight with a couple of friends who joined in on a couple of songs helping to give some variation to the instrumentation but in truth this was a solo performance as Georgia's star shone brightly with the strong support of her family. - Merkel and Myrtle

Billy Farrell helped to create the Corrs and now he has high hopes for a new sibling pop group. The Germein Sisters are currently recording their first album in Dunshaughlin, Co Meath, with Billy - and they've left him quite breathless.
The trio come from slightly further afield than Dundalk, through. They travelled from Australia in the hope that Billy would sprinkle production magic dust on their sound.
Not that they need much help, he told me last week. 'They are pretty much the complete package,' he said. 'Georgia is the driving force and writes all the songs.'
So can they do a Corrs? Billy Thinks so. 'They are three good looking sisters who sing and are every bit as talented as them.'
The sisters will be in the studio for three weeks but are also squeezing in some sightseeing, including trips to the Blarney Stone and Killeen Castle - Golf Club in Co Meath.
While Georgia sings, Ella plays bass and sings backing vocals, and Clara plays drums and guitar. - Dublin's The Sunday Times, Ireland

Bio
Australian sisters Georgia, Ella, & Clara Germein are a refreshingly honest young female pop/folk band, who are exceptionally talented musicians. This act is the real deal. Their catchy melodies with a message are topped off with beautiful sibling harmonies, leaving listeners spell bound.
Germein Sisters completed an Australian National Tour in 2012, followed by performances in the UK, Europe, & Canada. Since then they recorded their debut album in Ireland with producer Billy Farrell (The Corrs) & Stuart Gray (Sinead O’Connor).
“Songwriter with a passion” is one way to describe lead vocalist, piano, & guitar player of the band Georgia Germein; who’s award-winning music reflects her commitment to help the under privileged in the world. CEO of World Vision Australia Tim Costello defines Georgia Germein as “A remarkable young woman who will continue to sing words that breathe life into the silenced…” Drummer, sister Clara, provides such a huge pumping beat for one so petit; while sister Ella completes the tight rhythm section with tasteful bass lines and tempting treats on electric cello and synthesizer – all adding warmth and colour to the performance.
Based on a bushland property in the Adelaide Hills - South Australia, the girls are energetic, beach loving & inspiring young role models. Georgia Germein has volunteered in the Kalahari Desert South Africa, Nepal, Malaysia & Central Australia; and is currently an Artist Associate with World Vision Australia, a Youth Advocate for the Red Cross and Nature Foundation SA, and a carer for orphaned kangaroo joeys through Fauna Rescue SA.
Georgia’s songwriting awards include seven ASME Young Composers Awards, semi finalist in the International Song-writing Competition, and finalist in the Australian Song-writing Competition.
Georgia’s solo album ‘Take My Hand’ produced by Ian Pritchett (Angus & Julia Stone) is currently receiving airplay worldwide as part of the South Australian Tourism Commission’s International Online Marketing Campaign.
