Chicago melodic post-rock Gathering Moss trio combine the meandering lyrics of seminal band like Sonic Youth and Television. Singer Tom Appling isn't blessed with powerful pipes, but they fit to the music which is bit uneven - balancing issues galore. Their self-titled album was recorded on the cheap, but it will appeal to lo-fi aficionados who can appreciate hard work and passion. Gathering has plenty of that and with a capable engineer their next one won't sound so muddy.
Stand-out tracks are Tedium & Glory (with a guitar riff lifted from Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells and the rumbling Riot Act. - Here Comes The Flood
