Afin de s'assurer d'avoir un programme tout en groove, les organisateurs ont invité Fredy V, afin de réchauffer la salle. Je savais que ce dernier avait fait quelques collaborations avec le Kalumnity Project. Par contre, je n'avais jamais eu la chance de le voir à l'œuvre avec son groupe. Quelle bonne idée que celle de lui avoir confié cette ouverture de soirée ! Malgré que la plupart des spectateurs soient arrivés au courant de sa prestation, celui-ci, par son charisme, envoûtait presque machinalement chaque nouvel arrivant. Si bien qu'à la fin de sa prestation, la foule scandait son nom pour un rappel. Le funk/soul offert par Fredy V et sa bande est honnête, groovy, et rempli de textes recherchés, comme celui présent dans l’extrait inclus plus bas. Bio
A passionate singer, sincere songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and dynamic live performer, Fredy V's talent and charisma have captivated audiences worldwide. Born and raised in Washington DC, this senegalese/cape verdean entertainer made his mark as a core member of Canada's largest music entity, The Kalmunity Vibe Collective. In addition, Fredy V's alter ego, known as "Jam Washington", is the frontman of the leading international disco/funk review The Boogie Wonder Band (Rick James, EWF, KC & The Sunshine Band). This seasoned multi-instrumentalists has vast composition, recording and performance experience which include:
- Co-writer for the song "I'm Not The One" by Malika Tirolien & Snarky Puppy featured on Grammy award winning album Family Dinner Vol 1.
- Bass player and background singer for top Canadian blues artist/guitarist Cécile Doo-Kingué.
- Background singer for british soul artist Nate James (The Voice UK).
- Background singer for senegalese hip hop pioneer Didier Awadi.
- Writer and singer for canadian TV and cinema soundtracks such as Lance & Compte and Sur Le Rythme.
- Musical director and background singer for UK neo-soul legend Omar Lyle Fook (Erykah Badu, Roy Hargrove, Stevie Wonder)
After years of working on diverse projects, Fredy V released his highly anticipated solo debut Varsity Vol 1 in the Fall of 2014. This EP is a flavorful blend of soul, rock, funk and reggae which include songs captured by legendary Grammy award-winning recording engineer and inventor George Massenburg (Herbie Hancock, EWF, Billy Joel). Joined by a talented and energetic group of top notch musicians, Fredy’s live performances deliver a high level of musicianship and showmanship while creating powerful and genuine connections with his audiences.
