Flint didn’t start off as the duo that you see today. In fact, Meagan, who is known as the powerhouse singer, was signed to Crissy Field Records as a solo pop artist. Adding Kelsey as a backup singer and co-songwriter, Flint’s sound started to change in another direction. Changing their sound to a 80’s rock mix with a modern twist, Flint would describe their music as “Kick-Ass.” Now with their new single out titled, “Lipstick,” this powerful duo is empowering women around the world while showing the industry they’re next to make their mark in music. Check out their interview below.
Tell us how Flint came together?
(MEAGAN) I was actually signed to Crissy Field Records first as a pop artist! About 2 years into my contract, my executive producer, Taran Gray and I were randomly talking about being fans of Bon Jovi. We both ‘geeked’ out about arena rock so hard that we decided to change directions!
(KELSEY) Plus Meagan, you have the voice for it, such a powerhouse! In fact, I learned how to sing by standing next to Meagan in our high school choir and imitating her. I originally joined Flint as her backup singer and co-songwriter. It sort of naturally grew into a duo.
How did you go about choosing “Flint” as the name of your group?
(KELSEY) It was the obvious choice. It’s Meagan’s last name and she’s a powerhouse.
(MEAGAN) Well it goes back to the whole Bon Jovi thing! He went with his last name, and it worked for him!
How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
(KELSEY) Kick-ass.
(MEAGAN) It’s like a tribute to 80’s rock, but modernized. People have said it’s like a modern response to the band Heart.
Who are some artists you grew up listening to and who are some artists you listen today?
(KELSEY) I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel, Def Leppard and Stevie Nicks. New bands? I love The Kills and Black Keys, but I still listen to everything from Muddy Waters to Bob Dylan to Beyonce.
(MEAGAN) Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, I loved pop in the 90’s. Even N’Sync and 98 Degrees. Of course The Beatles! Currently I’m really into Demi Lovato and Annie Lennox. My playlist is very eclectic!
Having a fan base is so vital for any artist. How do you go about gaining new fans?
(KELSEY) By supporting other artists. That leads into mutual support and borrowing from each others fan bases. Cohesive artist support.
(MEAGAN) I totally agree, it’s all about camaraderie. I also love social media, it’s an amazing tool!
Do you find it challenging as an artist to build your fan base?
(KELSEY) Very challenging. You have to get people to invest in the same emotion that you’ve created. That can be extremely difficult. If you like it, you like it. If you don’t, you don’t.
(MEAGAN) It’s always a challenge to start at the bottom with nobody knowing who you are, but that’s what drives me to pursue this. It’s thrilling.
How has the support been for your group from your fans so far?
(KELSEY) Amazing. It doesn’t fit into a genre, the music is its own thing. You get some interesting perspectives from people because of that.
(MEAGAN) I get a lot of people telling me they’ve downloaded our song. It’s reassuring to see people coming out to support us, it’s never expected.
Besides music, artists tend to start their clothing lines, cosmetics, build apps etc…are you looking to get into any other industries or have any other dreams that you want to see accomplished besides music?
(KELSEY) I do a lot of painting. It’s another way to express myself. You can check out my work on my Instagram at @pepinkelsey or on my blog at www.awaketowild.blogspot.com
(MEAGAN) Kelsey’s paintings are amazing! I think if we become a public figure that young girls are inspired by, then they want to have something tangible that relates them to you. That may end up being perfume or cosmetics or anything else, time will tell. Also, I love theater and am always active in it. I’m currently playing Rosalia in West Side Story with San Diego Musical Theater.
Tell us about your new single Lipstick and how this song came about? What is the message you were trying to convey?
(MEAGAN) We needed an anthem. Something that was empowering to women that you could sing along too. We wrote it in the studio in one night.
(KELSEY) It’s badass. Not like “yo, I’m a gangsta rolling by” badass, but “hey, I got my short skirt and stilettos and you want me,” badass.
What else can we expect from you this year?
(MEAGAN) We have a 4 song EP coming out in March titled, “Lipstick Red.” With the help of everyone who was involved these songs are all extremely powerful and need to be shared. We will definitely be performing them live a lot.
(KELSEY) Expect a whirlwind of excitement!
When will you know you made it?
(KELSEY) I’ve already made it. We just want to have fun. If you don’t like it, peace! If you like it, rage with us!
(MEAGAN) I already do what I love. We’re doing this for us.

Flint's powerful soaring vocals reverberate through the halls of rock history, crumbling the facades of other female rock vocalists looking for permanence in the modern rock scene. Elements of Rock, Hip Hop, Pop, EDM, and Musical Theater polish the already statuesque performance of Flint.
