Bio

With the hopes of prolonging a surreal existence, songdesigner Alex McCoy relocated from South Carolina's peidmont to the eerie streets of East Hollywood. The motive: create an indie ensemble based off of his motto, "fuck genres". From a youth of mainstream country, to an adolescence of alternative, from a teenage obsession of hip-hop to college days of trading bootleg jamband shows, McCoy pays diverse homage to the many influences that inspire his eclectic creations.

Early days in LA...

After an initial nomadic introduction to Los Angeles, McCoy settled in an affordable Manhattan Beach shanty. Thanks to Roommates.com, the autumn of 2006 would send McCoy and his new co-tenant/percussionist, Phillip Parker, on a mission to construct a band. Three weeks and one bassist later, Limelife was formed. For nearly three years the trio hustled to make a name for themselves, ultimately landing a deal with Peer Publishing for both licensing and production. By winter of 2008, Limelife found themselves in a multi-million-dollar studio producing a 5-track EP intended for Atlantic. With everything mixed, mastered and ready for pressing, Peer Publishing, along with the hopes of Limelife, fell victim to a declining economy and recession cuts. Limelife struggled to make ends meet and called it quits.

Side projects and reformation...

Following the breakup, McCoy and programmer Taylor Ballenger paired up to form the electro group, C is for Scene. The duo yielded three mixes over a two month span before Ballenger's entry to USC law shut down further production. Shortly after, Parker and McCoy decided to re-form, release, and regain lost momentum. By midsummer 2009 a quartet was assembled, dubbed "Fight Friendly", a name generated randomly by Craigslist CAPTCHA codes.

Release...

Saint Rocke Hermosa Beach hosted the kick-off show for Fight Friendly on Thursday August 20, 2009. The nearly-sold-out concert was a huge success for the team and the beginning of a turn-around in fortune. Singularly focused on breathing life into his new band, McCoy moved out of his home and into his downtown Los Angeles rehearsal space. With minimal rent due, he could live cheap, work less and focus on the priorities. Many months of auditions and a shuffling of members later, Fight Friendly welcomed bassist Jeff Bernett, a Minneapolis transplant seeking musical chemistry, to the table. Soon after, barely-legal drummer, Brandon Lark of Anaheim, became Fight Friendly's beatkeeper. Most recently, Montreal's very own Yan Clermont joined the team as second guitarist, making the band an international affair. Together, they make the new Fight Friendly.

To the present...

Throughout 2010, Fight Friendly performed numerous shows in the Southwest US, including dates at SXSW in Austin. During this time, the group starred in a full-length feature film about their battle for success. The film, "Unsigned", premiered in September 2011 and has since gained distribution through Hulu and NetFlix Finally, after countless hours of writing, the team embarked on the production of a full-length record with producer Patrick Doyle. By summer's end 2011, "Neapolitan" was complete
