"FEMME Goody Bag Give-Away"

On July 22nd the multi talented Laura Bettinson, AKA FEMME, will be releasing her debut AA single Educated and Double Trouble. With skills ranging from film making to fashion, production and singing, her tag line is "girls, bass and beats" and her pop hooks have given us a right dirty case of ear worm.

Blending her love of 60s girl groups with fresh electro production, this South Londoner recently fronted Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich's Ultraista project and featured on dance producer Enjoyed's track Dreamboat Lover.

FEMME is set to celebrate the release on July 30th in London at Tipsy Bar in Dalston, and we've got tickets to give away to it. Along with a pair of tickets to the show (which includes £50 bar tab) we've got two copies of the release on CD and two of her limited edition super sought after pink flipbooks.

And if that wasn't enough, the guys at TAPEgear are throwing in some FEMME branded iPad or Laptop covers made from cork To enter the competition just answer this simple question:

FEMME is the pseudonym of which artist? - Clash Magazine

"Win Ableton Live & FEMME Goodies"

As you can see, we’ve got ourselves a shiny new website. Look at it. Touch it. Go on. DRINK IT IN.

Anyway, to celebrate our sleek new look we’ve teamed up with rising starlet FEMME (desribed as “just incredible” by Lauren Laverne, who’s been blasting her out constantly on 6Music) to give away a copy of premier music software suite Ableton Live 8 (including a free upgrade to 9) so that you can attempt to emulate her sassy pop stylings. Or create something less good. It’s up to you. Seriously, go wild and make some eardrum-staining sub-Swedish House Mafia dross, we won’t judge you (nb: we will judge you). It’s sealed too, so you know we haven’t been tampering with it…

The winner and runners-up will also recieve copies of FEMME’s debut AA single, ‘Educated / Double Trouble’, tickets to her next gig at Dalston’s Tipsy Bar on July 30th, plus some of her limited edition flipbooks. And that’s not all – we’ve also got some sustainable cork iPad, Kindle and mobile phone sleeves made by our friends over at Tapegear. How ace is that?

Simply head here to enter via Facebook, or follow our Twitter account and retweet this. Or do both and double your chances of winning (Double Trouble, if you will).

In the meantime, have a gander at FEMME’s latest videos below. Be warned – the first one will probably make you want to eat cake. Or at least smoosh some into your face… - The-Monitors

"FEMME Exclusive Hazy Mixtape"

To celebrate the arrival (finally!) of summer, South London-based vocalist/producer FEMME created a feel-good mixtape that includes sunshine-ready tracks from Cashmere Cat, MØ, Mykki Blanco, Lion Babe and a brilliant FTSE remix of her forthcoming single, Double Trouble. We think FEMME, aka Laura Bettinson, sums it up best: “These are a bunch of tunes I love and gives you an insight into my world. Big Beats. Summer Jams. Enjoy.”

And if FEMME looks a tad familiar, you can blame Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. Cherrypicked by the man himself to front his truly excellent side project, Ultraista, Bettinson received rave reviews for her unique vocals and inimitable style. Now Bettinson’s gone solo as FEMME, channeling big, ferocious avant-pop with beat-driven tunes. Check out the mix for some of her own tunes. - Wonderland Magazine

"Premiere: FEMME - Double Trouble (FTSE Remix)"

South London singer FEMME has handed a new remix of her 'Double Trouble' single to Clash.

The conversation between the electronic underground and the mainstream is providing a fluid area for young artists to forge their own identity. Recently working with Nigel Godrich on the Ultraista project, South London newcomer FEMME is one such performer.

Coming of age at a time when the lines between underground / commercial are becoming increasingly blurred, the rising singer / producer is turning this state of flux to her own advantage.

Early cut 'Daydreamer' has already gained enormous exposure, with Stella McCartney choosing the song for her latest campaign. New single 'Educated' / 'Double Trouble' drops via TAPE on July 22nd, and to celebrate Clash are able to premiere a brand new remix.

Recently signed to Something In Construction, FTSE has a light, deft touch in common with the more propulsive end of the house spectrum.

Stepping in to remix 'Double Trouble' the producer adds a sense of light and shade, smoothing out the dynamics for a piece of summer sunshine. - Clash Magazine

"FEMME – VIDEO INTERVIEW"

FEMME is the nom de plume of South London based vocalist and producer Laura Bettinson, who’s debut single Educated, is out on TAPE records now. Part of the Goldsmiths alumni – (I’m talking about the recent batch of Katy B and James Blake), FEMME is written and produced by Laura herself, who also works with Nigel Goodrich on his Ultraista project. Anyway we interviewed her and she sent us this cute video back with all her answers! - The Beat

"Premiere: FEMME - Educated The Nigel Godrich collaborator delivers sugar-coated pop with a punch."

FEMME is the new project of singer-songwriter and Nigel Godrich collaborator Laura Bettinson, who takes her inspiration from the strident hooks of 60s pop and describes FEMME on Facebook as “Girls. Beats. Bass.” The latest single Educated, with a nonchalant, playfully defiant vocal and low-slung, low-fidelity beats, provides exactly what’s promised on the tin, but veers away from convention at every opportunity. Watch Bettinson plunge her face into cream cakes, jam tarts and donuts and coat her lips in sprinkles in the new video, premiered exclusively at Dummy, as you make vain efforts to shake the sweetly addictive “I’m gonna let you love me” refrain out of your mind. - DUMMY

"Introducing: FEMME"

Introducing South London-based rising star FEMME (a.k.a. Laura Bettinson). Though not exactly a newcomer to the music scene, being one third of the band Ultraista, it seems FEMME’s solo career is just about to take off. She’s just signed a deal with Adidas NEO to provide the soundtrack for their new digital campaign. To celebrate the collaboration, FEMME is now offering a free download of her unreleased track “Daydreamer.” A fun and gentle avant-pop piece, “Daydreamer” is a perfect example of FEMME’s capabilities as an artist, layering vocals that are simultaneously soothing and strong over a light but energetic electronic rhythm. Have a listen below.

Teaming up with Enjoyed and Something in Construction, FEMME recently embarked upon a UK mini-tour, allowing her to bring her music to some live crowds. Interested in getting in on the fun? FEMME will be performing at Gold Dust at the Hoxton Bar & Grill on 17th April. Tickets are just £6. - Notion Magazine

"Listen to FEMME's new track, 'Double Trouble' [405 Premiere]"

Laura Bettinson started making waves four years ago with her synth pop moniker, Dimbleby & Capper. Fast forward to the present and Bettinson joins Ultraísta, the new project with producer extraordinaire Nigel Godrich and drummer Joey Waronker. In addition to her frontwoman duties, Bettinson is growing a solo project, Femme.

Femme deals in rich, synth textured and bassy heavy electro-pop, and is set to drop a new, double A-side single in July for new tracks, 'Educated' and 'Double Trouble'. In an exclusive 405 premiere, you can take a listen to 'Double Trouble', the second track off the single. It's a mashup of girl group melody and harmonies with a Deerhoof sound on the chorus, all backed by a strong beat. - The405

Bio

South London based vocalist and producer Laura Bettinson aka FEMME. Involved in an array of creative projects ever since graduating from Goldsmiths in London (legendary launch pad for Blur, Katy B and James Blake), FEMME combines playful, avant-pop with big, beat-driven music.

Inspired by sixties girl groups and the fierce female attitudes of figures like MIA and Debbie Harry. With her talents encompassing art, music, film, dance and fashion, FEMME has seen artists like Four Tet, Matthew Herbert and David Lynch manipulate her vocals in sublime fashion in her other guise as frontwoman with Nigel Godrich’s Ultraista. An appearance on an upcoming EP from MPC mastermind FTSE is approaching.
