A year ago Sara Davenport and Brian Franke were two solo singer/songwriters in Washington, DC who were looking to do more with their songwriting and performing. Since beginning their collaboration together as FarAway in August of 2012 they have secured performances at some of Washington, DC’s top local area music venues such as Ebenezer’s Coffeehouse, Iota Club and Café, and The Hard Rock Café, where they shared the stage with American Idol stars Phillip Phillips and Haley Reinhart. Along with these performances they have co-written songs, two of which appear on their debut EP ‘Somehow’.
‘Somehow’ is FarAway’s first effort that blends folk and pop with beautiful harmonies. Drawing comparisons to other duos like Jenny & Tyler and The Civil Wars, the three song EP speaks to personal struggles in relationships and finding love. ‘Long Drive Home’ follows the percussive nature of a Lumineers song while ‘Our Sky’ is a fun upbeat number about how opposites attract that throws in a smooth harmonica solo.
The duo recently wrapped up their summer tour which was fully fan funded by an Indiegogo campaign. The tour went to such cities as Richmond, Charlottesville, Nashville, and Austin and included performances on the radio and television. They returned home to play their release show to a packed house at Jammin Java to end their tour in late July.
While they are not playing as FarAway, Franke is an award winning full-time musician not only performing solo but hosting open mics, running a songwriting group, and recording his own material. Davenport works as a music teacher and also teaches private lessons in guitar and voice.
FarAway will be opening for Nashville duo, Carolina Story, October 23rd at 7:30pm at The Hamilton in downtown Washington, DC. To find out more about FarAway’s music and upcoming shows, please visit: www.farawaysongs.com. - DC Outlook

Washington, DC-area native performers Far Away – aka Sara Davenport and Brian Franke – end their fan-funded tour to support Somehow, the duo’s latest EP at, DC’s The Hamilton on October 23. The title track is somehow plaintive in vocals yet expansive in melody, Davenport’s lilting tale of picking up the pieces after a love gone wrong is majestic, but bittersweet. Lead singer Franke has some inspired moments on guitar as well as serving as a lead vocalist. The track “Our Sky” strikes a nerve as a particularly poignant track. Davenport and Franke’s similar skills give the act a cohesive synergy that makes their EP worthy of multiple spins and helps them excel in concert.-MD - On Tap Magazine

Bio
On a cold night in the middle of February in 2012, Sara Davenport and Brian Franke met for the first time in person. They both knew of each other through fellow music friends and after talking and hearing each other play, made an instant connection. Soon after meeting they began attending one anothers shows and supporting each others music careers.
Both Sara and Brian quickly learned about their shared passion for music. As separate singer/songwriters in the Washington, DC area, they performed frequently solo and in their other groups (The 3MTs for Sara and Twelve Strings for Brian) and wrote original songs. Outside of performing, the two were involved in music in other waysSara as a music teacher at an elementary school and Brian as a host of an open mic night as well as doing social media for other musicians. Music was constantly engrained into their daily lives and when they werent performing or pursuing other music endeavors, the two enjoyed sharing music with one another and going to live shows.
Before Sara and Brian even sang a song together, the relationship between the two grew stronger through more than just music. After both endured a very rough and challenging 2011, Sara and Brian fit together naturally, helping each other find themselves. They quickly realized they were falling for each other and becoming inseparable in their everyday lives.
It was not until August that an opportunity came along for Sara and Brian to play together. Much like their relationship, playing together came very naturally. Their voices blended incredibly well and even having only practiced a few hours, received warm responses from the audiences they played to.
Since their first performance together they have performed at top local venues such as Jammin Java, Iota Club and Caf, and the Hard Rock Cafe. In June of 2013 their debut EP Somehow was released along with a month long tour fully funded by their fans. The tour took them to such cities as Nashville and Austin, Texas with performances on TV and radio.
