Things of note about the Fake Furs? There are only two of them. One of them (the singer/guitarist) is French. They are also filmmakers. And they just produced a six-track EP that doesn’t suck. Their reasoning for only releasing the six tracks was the ol’ “quality over quantity” deal, as it’s evident they put a lot of focus into the production of each of the six tracks. But this also means that certain tracks, I won’t name any names (cough, “Sick Childs”) seem completely out of place in the midst of the heavier, machismo-filled rest of the album, each song seeming to have a pushing, sunburst moment of climax.
Their band philosophy seems to be: “We don’t give a fuck, but we’re not dicks about it. We want to do something pretty with how much we don’t give a fuck.” And while I didn’t hear some revolutionary new sound, the ways they used old sounds and styles made me keep listening. About mid-track on each song of the EP, the band always experimented with something interesting—whether that be a synthesizer sound or the way they mixed tracks like “Teenage Scatterer” toward the end, creating an effect similarly used in King Missile. (Yeah, there is a music technical term here, but I don’t know it.) So, I’d say this EP is worth a download. The band doesn’t really care if you like it, but you probably will like that about it.

Abrasive, grunge-influenced, but with a pop accessibility, Fake Furs, are an electro-tinged, pop/rock band. They make music so loud, aggressive and gritty, you don’t even notice they’re a bassless band. Emotional and glittery enough to appeal to the fourteen year-old girl inside you, but modern and danceable enough to call forth the grown woman who wants to party so hard she feels fourteen again.

Bio
Fake Furs is a band of filmmakers who make music. Fake Furs is a band of musicians who make films.
Born on a film set where Sonny Wong (drums, etc.) was the cinematographer and Laszlo Bolender (vocals, etc.) was the sound operator, the band released their first EP, -1, in a just a few days after forming. The band's characteristics were then immediately delineated: a distillation of intoxicating drum beats and guitar noise, lead by hypnotic, dark melodies. Their sound, as they like to coin Velvet Rock, was born.
While playing an extensive amount of shows, they went in the studio to push the boundaries further with their first LP, Follow The Guns.
Fake Furs was featured in various magazines, both physical and digital,
such as the L.A. Record and the Deli Magazine — both L.A. and N.Y.
editions.
They are now about to release their second album, Fragments, this Spring 2015.
