"TJRS Nominated for More Awards"

MURFREESBORO, TENN. (TJRS) - The Justin Reed Show has been nominated for more awards. TJRS previously won a Golden Microphone from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System in Spring 2014 and went to NYC for the award ceremony; two more Golden Mic nominations have been announced for Spring 2015. Justin was nominated in the "Best Live Music" category and "Best Celebrity Interview" categories.

The selections up for nomination were chosen from broadcasts that aired during the 2014 calendar year. The selections that were selected came from when Erin McLendon joined Justin in-studio the first time (October 2014). The winner will be announced in New York City at the 75th Annual IBS Conference, March 6-8, 2015. Stay tuned to the TJRS newsletter, Facebook, and Twitter accounts for more information regarding this nomination.

Also in January, Justin received two nominations from the Nashville Universe. Comprised of individuals in the music industry in and around Nashville, the Nashville Universe holds an award ceremony in February in Downtown Nashville. Justin was nominated for both "Promoter of the Year" and "Radio Personality of the Year."

Commenting on both nominations, Justin relayed that it is truly an honor. "Thank you to everyone that has listened, made a request, or helped spread the show. I could not have done it without you! Regardless of the outcome, the show will continue!"

"Erin McLendon Releases Debut Album"

Erin McLendon has released her first full-length album, an alt-country project with blues, rock, pop and country influences.

‘Fire & Wine’ contains 10 songs, each either written or co-written by McLendon. The Nashville-based artist says that her eclectic mix of musical styles was heavily influenced by the car rides to school growing up.

“It always depended on who was driving me that day,” she says. “If it was my dad we would listen to Jimmy Buffett, Phil Collins, Queen, Aerosmith, the Beatles, all the classic rock stuff. It if was my mom it was people like Rod Stewart, Michael Crawford, Earth Wind & Fire — the stuff you’d hear on all the soft rock stations. One of the only constants was country.”

McLendon began viewing music as a potential career option her junior year of high school, when she was assigned to write and perform a song based on the counter-culture era of the Vietnam War. She tweaked the tune of the only song she could play on piano at the time, ‘Heart and Soul,’ and her teacher ended up asking her to perform her song at the school’s Veteran’s Day celebration. After graduating from Belmont University in Nashville with the hope of pursuing a music career, McLendon joined Bernard Porter and PCG Nashville.

‘Fire & Wine’ was produced by Britton Cameron and Stephen Leiweke. The album is available on iTunes and Amazon.

“…While a majority of artists pump out repetitive themes, studio tricks and hip-hop disguised as Country, Erin infuses the roots of Country music with the versatility of an artist influenced by all genres of popular music. With Erin’s debut release, you won’t hear over-produced songs about bonfires, ‘shine’ and bro-mances. What you will find is Erin’s surprisingly strong and deeply rich vocals taking on a variety of themes, thoughtful lyrics with a sparse deliberate production. Don’t let her whimsical nature fool you, this girl has the goods.”

–Skip Mahaffey, The Skip Show

The songs on Fire & Wine contain stories and emotions that McLendon has experienced first-hand. From something as light and airy as falling in love with a place on “Honolulu Love,” to getting over a heart break as showcased in “Tell Me,” McLendon doesn’t hold back. The album also contains motivational songs like “You’re the Only One,” the album’s first single, and the title track, “Fire & Wine,” a song all about throwing caution to the wind and enjoying life. With each track showcasing a different side to Erin’s musical background, this album is sure to please listeners from all around!

While Fire & Wine is available on iTunes and all other download sites, you can get your copy at her Nashville release show on June 19th at Sound Emporium. "Honesty and optimism open Nashville doors for songwriter Erin McLendon"

Singer-songwriter Erin McLendon sent it on a whim, an email to the senior director of Writer/Publisher Relations for SESAC, a Nashville-based performance-rights organization.
She didn’t expect to hear back, and certainly never thought it would lead to a publishing deal, but those doors opened nevertheless, she told The Daily Times this week.
“John Mullins came to speak to a class I was taking at Belmont and wrote his email address down, so I wrote to him,” she said. “I said, ‘I’m a senior, and I don’t really know what I’m going to do when I graduate; can I sit down and talk to you?’ He said yes, so I played him the EP I had at the time, and he asked me if I had a PRO already. I said, ‘No, I just started this songwriting thing,’ and he said, ‘Well let’s just sign you up right now.’
“I ran up and down the hallway in my apartment screaming when I got home: ‘Oh my gosh, what just happened?!?’ My roommate, the only thing she could see was me running up and down the hall, screaming.”
Say this for McLendon — she’s vivacious, animated and whimsical, and it comes across on stage and off. Her originals (“Honolulu,” “You’re the Only One”) showcase a talented songwriter unafraid to dip her toes in mainstream waters but much more comfortable blazing her own trail through the wild lands of undiscovered artists who just need the right break to see their name in lights and on charts.
Originally from Georgia, she moved with her family to Durham, N.C., when she was 2 and went to college at Belmont University in Nashville; when she graduated four years ago, she knew she had a better chance of pursuing a music career in Nashville, but that meeting with Mullins set her down her current path.
“I knew I was going to stay; I just didn’t know what I was going to do,” she said. “When that happened, I said, ‘OK, this is a sign.’”
Mullins began introducing her to other songwriters, and she began co-writing for the first time; at each session, she asked to be introduced to other writers, eventually building a network of songwriters that have helped make her own material stronger. And while it’s well and good to be the only name on a potential hit single, co-writing is a way of paying her dues and opening additional doors, she pointed out.
“Everybody co-writes in their life — it’s Simon AND Garfunkel; Lennon AND McCartney,” she said. “Even Sturgill (Simpson) and Chris (Stapleton) have co-written with other people in Nashville; that’s where they got their start. My thought was, I’m never going to get any better if I don’t see what else is out there. And I feed off of other writers; that’s what I love about co-writing. When I write, I take a little something from that session and bring it with me to the next one. I want to learn about every shape, form or fashion in this industry.”
In the four years since she graduated, her own sound has evolved as well; early on, she had more of a pop-country sound, but through keeping an ear out for artists at festivals and Nashville venues who fly under the mainstream radar, she’s discovered a world of sounds that she draws from for her own inspiration. Today, what she does can be described as Americana or country, but when fans get a chance to hear her live — as they’ll do on Friday at Vienna Coffeehouse in Maryville — the labels don’t matter as much as the sound: Buoyant, effervescent and refreshingly honest.
Plus, her backing band is called the Jackalopes, a cryptozoological reference that’s too cool to ignore.
“We were driving back from a gig in North Carolina in the mountains, and my original bassist started talking about jackalopes as if they were real,” McLendon said with a laugh. “We all looked at her and were like, ‘You know they’re mythical, right?’ But it was a funny story, so we ran with it.” - The Daily Times
