Pop singer/songwriter Eric Zayne, who plays the Witzend in Venice Friday, June 28, remembers the void from which his musicianship emerged at a very young age.
Zayne’s parents, of Spanish/Morrocan and French/Polish descent, had relocated to the Congo in Africa because of his father’s job for an electronics giant. It was during this idyllic time in Zayne’s youth when his dad pushed music on him and his siblings.
Then, all hell broke loose.
“There was a war and I was evacuated,” Zayne recalled.
He couldn’t have been more than 9 or 10 years old when his idyllic life in Africa was uprooted and he was sent to Montreal ahead of his parents.
It was there in Canada – sans immediate family – that the love for music his father had instilled in him began to flourish.
“I really felt the separation,” Zayne remembered. “It made me look at life from a whole different perspective. Suddenly I heard these symphonies in my head.”

Eric Zayne is a soul infused pop-rock musician and record producer who blends electronics to create a sound that is edgy and unique. At 13 years old, Zayne started developing himself as a musician by playing in multiple bands throughout his home city, Montreal. His first major gig was a five year tour across Asia where he played keyboards, guitar and sang in a funk band; these formative years taught Zayne about songwriting, performing and how to connect with an audience.
Zayne arrived on the Los Angeles music scene in February 2013 and opted to focus his music on pop alternative though his influences range from Prince to the Beatles to Maroon 5. Recently signed by the independent record label What If Records, he spent this summer touring in California promoting his singles 'Spin the World' & 'Maneater' while also recording and producing his first EP 'Between Us'.
Prolific in his music and highly active with his growing online fan base, Eric Zayne released a free mixtape 'AutobiograMe' on March 10th which features Matisyahu, Amber Riley from Glee, Rozzi Crane and King Blaise. www.EricZayne.com.
