Guitar Player Zen Featured Artist of the Week: Eric Brewer
When you first visit Eric Brewer’s Myspace, your ears are delighted by the groovin’, rockin’ jams that begin to play as the page loads. You suddenly feel inspired, impressed, and just downright good to be listening to some great guitar jams that don’t make you want to shoot yourself after listening to them for more than 2 minutes.
And then you read his bio. Holy shit. He is only 22. Damn that is just simply AMAZING. Eric Brewer definitely has some chops beyond his years. His sound is a unique blend of rock, funk, blues, and probably a million other things. One thing I like about his playing is that he demonstrates a great balance of melody, technique, and tone; never overdisplaying his chops. Always playing for what the song calls for. That’s one I see missing a lot today. Some guitarists just shred to shred instead of playing something more soulful and simple that would make the song sound a lot better. But to each his own.
Alas, Watch out for Eric Brewer in the future at guitar shows in your neighborhood and in your cd players at home. Check out his Myspace page and see what I am talking about. Leave him some love on his comments and support his music and guitar music everywhere! - Guitar Player Zen
"Eric Brewer's fiery performance on "Victory" moved Joe Satriani to applaud his "amazing technique," while Steve Vai said "I'm impressed with your chops and how you ebbed and flowed the energy."

RE: Halloween Show at the Docksider
"Spooner declined to specify which Halloween-appropriate songs it'll scare up. Expect a theme, however, plus a costume contest that's open to everyone except the band - although it too will be dressed up. And why not? Ever since Eric Brewer joined in May, Spooner's been dressed for success.
Adding an extra guitarist, especially one as gifted as Brewer, has vaulted Spooner into another category of jam band.
As last week's opening set for Ekoostik Hookah showed, they're more like a super-progressive, funk influenced jam band capable of O. Henry rhythmic twists and Wild Mouse stylistic turns. Brewer and and guitarist Jaremy Crouse play off each other like old friends, though they just met 5 months ago. The twin-guitar lineup gives the group a whole new dynamics." - Dave Richards "Dr. Rock" - Erie Times News

Bio
Growing up in an atmosphere where music was always playing, Eric soon realized that he wanted to create his own. Beginning with a drum kit, he progressed to bass guitar, then guitar. The guitar has never left his hands since.
Eric has pursued all aspects of his instrument from electric rock, to jazz, funk, acoustic, country, classical and everything in between. During high school, he performed in several bands while attending a local university nights for music theory and classical guitar. Upon finishing high school, he was able to enter a university music school with college credits already in hand.
Eric has been fortunate to enjoy many great opportunities and perform on some of the best stages throughout the east coast. Currently, he is still pursuing performance as a member of 3 bands, while also teaching guitar. In his spare time he enjoys studio/session work and has been featured on CD's from many different artists. His myspace has been featured throughout the summer of 07 as one of guitarist Elliott Randall's "Great 16" and as the artist of the week at Guitar Player Zen.com. Eric was also selected to compete in Guitar Player Magazine's Guitar Superstar 08 in San Francisco, CA. this past September. Please use the link below to visit his myspace, as well as the other band pages that he is involved with.
Eric will continue to play, write and teach, where ever and when ever possible while actively seeking to have his original music heard. The instrumental guitar selections heard here are just a sampling of Eric's many original works.
