2008 rezensierte Marcel die Band: Il Pozzo Disan Patrizio mit ihrem Album: Hard Folk Cafe. Eine Band aus Mailand deren Bandname übersetzt “Der Brunnen des St. Patrick” bedeutet. Mit Pauken und Trompeten verwöhnten sie uns mit ihrer Version von “Dirty Old Town” welche mir wirklich gut gefiel.
Für das aktuelle Album hat sich die Band Verstärkung von “Baba Sissoko” geholt. Ein aus Mali stammendes Musikgenie. Schon in den Kinderschuhen begleitete er umherziehende Bands seiner Gegend. Ergebnis dieser Zusammenarbeit ist ein Mix aus Folk und traditionellen Klängen der Heimat Baba Sissokos. Klingt interessant eine angenehme Abwechslung zu den gewohnten Klängen. Plichtkauf für diejenigen unter uns die auf sehr exotische Prachtstücke in ihrer Sammlung nicht verzichten wollen.
Anspieltipps dieses Albums sind “Ne Muso” und “Kele” welche ihr auch demnächst in unserem Radiostream hören könnt. Alles in einem ein gelungendes Album das für jeden Exotensammler ins Plattenregal gehört. - Celtic Rock

Un lavoro musicale di impatto dirompente,THE EYES OVER THE WORLD (http://www.eowmusic.com) nasce dall'incontro tra il grande artista africano BABA SISSOKO (http://www.babasissoko.com http://www.myspace.com/babasissoko) e IL POZZO DI SAN PATRIZIO (http://www.ilpozzodisanpatrizio.com http://www.myspace.com/ilpozzodisanpatrizio), una delle più interessanti folk band italiane.
L'idea di creare questo esperimento musicale nasce alla fine del 2009, quando Baba Sissoko è in studio a comporre e registrare nuovi brani. Tra questi, vedono la luce due composizioni, "Bibisa" e "Kele" che - nelle loro versioni originali, colpiscono per l'estrema semplicità della struttura e per la potenza di coinvolgimento che suscitano negli amici a cui Baba fa ascoltare le sue ultime composizioni. "Kele", poi, rapisce i primi ascoltatori per l'ispirazione poetica (una testo di denuncia dei danni della guerra, sulle persone inermi, sui senza voce).
Emerge prepotentemente l'idea di proporre alcuni di questi brani in uno stile che possa più facilmente arrivare ad un pubblico non abituato alla sola purezza dell'Amadra e dell'afro-blues, i generi musicali cari alla tradizione Maliana.
Il periodo di elaborazioni e confronti sfocia nel connubbio con Il Pozzo di San Patrizio nel progetto "The Eyes over the World": non solo un semplice esperimento di fusione di afro-beat e folk-rock, ma un vero e proprio inno alla Vita, da proporre in un album e da riversare presto nelle piazze per live show che, già nelle prime date di lancio, hanno coinvolto gli spettatori.
L'album contiene otto brani, di cui due - "Mistico ritorno - Yala" e "Il fuoco alla finestra" - sono riarrangiamenti di brani de Il Pozzo di San Patrizio, mentre negli altri sei l'ascoltatore può immediatamente riconoscere le strutture care a Baba Sissoko, autore dei testi e delle musiche, con alcuni arrangiamenti in cui il tocco di Dario De Nicola e degli altri musicisti deIl Pozzo di San Patrizio emerge pienamente. La delicatezza del suono dei flauti di Antonella Manzo (sua anche la voce in "Il fuoco alla finestra"), i giri di fisarmonica e la caratteristica voce di Dario De Nicola, il beat della batteria di Roberto Coscia, le pulsazioni-quasi-cardiache del basso di Dario Triestino (in "Kele" sembra di ascoltare le linee di basso di Barrett), la chitarra rock di Luigi Nardiello, le versatilità percussive di Luca Buoninfante, nonché la genialità del clarinetto di Alessandro De Marino (uno dei maestri dell'utilizzo degli effetti a pedale accoppiati al clarinetto, che ha caratterizzato il sound de Il Pozzo di San Patrizio e che collabora con sperimentatori come Luca Urbani e Nicodemo) si sposano con tutto il repertorio magistrale di Baba Sissoko, in un mix di sonorità che travolgono chi ascolta.

Malian percussion master and edgy Italian folk rock band Il Pozzo di San Patrizio team up on the album eyes over the world. The result is a fascinating mix of Italian folk-rock music, Malian beats and reggae.
Il Pozzo di San Patrizio is a renowned band from Salerno (Campania, Italy). Il Pozzo di San Patrizio was started in winter 1998 in Salerno. The current sound of the band is characterized by a fusion of acoustic instruments, analog effects, and some electronics.
The first cd, titled “Il Pozzo di San Patrizio, was released in 2001. Two years later, the band released the second cd “Altri Tempi” and, in the summer of 2006, the third album came out. Lucidamente was released by Milan-based Ethnoworld.
In May of 2008 Il Pozzo di San Patrizio released Hard Folk Cafè (UPR/EDEL), which contains some of the most loved hits of the band and an homage to Vasco Rossi, with the song Cosa Succede in Città, sung with Lino Vairetti, the vocalist of Osanna, a historical Italian Progressive rock band.
Il Pozzo di San Patrizio’s line-up includes: Dario De Nicola: vox, accordion, chorus; Antonella Manzo: vocals, flute, tin whistles, chorus; Luigi Nardiello: electric guitar, chorus; Alessandro De Marino: clarinet, midi sax; Dario Triestino: bass, guitars, chorus; Luca Buoninfante: drums, percussion
Baba Sissoko was born March 8th, 1963, in Bamako, Mali. He is a reputable multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. He is a master of the talking drum (tama). He also plays ngoni, kamalengoni, bala, and calabass.
From childhood, he played tamani, often accompanying the traditional female jelis during wedding and other traditional ceremonies.
In 1985, he toured internationally with the prestigious Instrumental Ensemble of Mali orchestra, playing the tamani and ngoni. In 1991, he founded his trio, Baba Sissoko & Taman Kan, and began extensively collaborating with top Malian artists and international musicians. His work with Habib Koité is notable as their collaboration lasted 12 years and was widely celebrated. In 1995, Baba Sissoko released his first album with Tama-Kan.

"The Eyes over the World" is a music and conceptual project born by the meeting of Malian star Baba Sissoko and the folk-rock Italian band Il Pozzo di San Patrizio. Two different stories melted in a unique fascinating mix, a mesmerizing blend of Afro-Italian passion, spontaneity and vitality.
Born in Bamako (Mali), Baba Sissoko, undisputed master of tamani (the original talking drum), plays a wide range of instruments, such as ngoni, kamalengoni, guitar, balaphon, calebasse, steeldrum and… he sings!
He is from a great and ancient dynasty of griots from Mali: in the Malian tradition, griots are deputed to calm down hearts and souls, by means of music. He has been the first one to introduce the sound of tamani in the modern music of Mali.
In the Baba compositions there is a great influence of Amadran, that is a repetitive and hypnotic musical structure typical from Mali by which, according to many researchers, blues was born.
His style is peculiar: Baba loves to integrate melodies and rhythms of the Malian tradition (Bambara, Peul, Mandig e Sonrai) with the typical sounds of jazz and blues, creating fantastic musical effects.
This also thanks to the numerous experiences with other musicians belonging to cultures and roots completely different from his background.
His ability to play a wide range of musical instruments and his extreme sensitivity to other musical genders and expressions, brought him to cooperate with many fine musicians. Among others, he worked and cooperated with:
Habib Koite, Rokia Traore, Ibrahim Ferrer, Buena Vista Social Club, Don Moye and Art Ensemble of Chicago, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Miguel Anga Diaz, Omar Sosa, Chris Joris, Bob Stuwart, Aka Moon.
In the last five years Baba has been touring the World with Dee Dee Bridgewater first (2006), Omar Sosa then (2007 and 2008), in 2009 with his project "Culture Griot" with a belgian jazz trio "Aka Moon" and his percussions band "Black Machine".
In the 2010 he has been working with “Afrocubism” the World Circuit new project, together with Cuban and Malian Stars like Bassekou Kouyate, Toumani Diabate, Eliade Ochoa, Kasse Mady Diabate, Djelimady Tounghara and many others.
Finally, he come out with its 10th new album “The Eyes Over the World” together with the Italian folk-rock band Il Pozzo di San Patrizio and with this project Baba is planning an European tour starting in autumn 2011.
The idea of this new project was born in autumn 2009, when Baba met Il Pozzo di San Patrizio, that is well know in the Italian indie circuit for its sound, characterized by a fusion of acoustic instruments, rock and some electronics.
Il Pozzo di San Patrizio was started in winter 1998 in Salerno (Campania, Italy) with an intense tour story in Italy and Europe, including the participations to important continental manifestations, such as F.I.M.U., Folkwoods and Oerol Festivals.
After a first approach to folk music, the band developed its own style characterized by the use of acoustic instruments (accordion, flutes, clarinet) fused to analogic and digital effects and combined with classical rock base (drums, bass and electric guitar).
The first live shows already performed in Italy by Baba Sissoko & Il Pozzo di San Patrizio were characterized by an unbelievable energy establishing between the musicians on stage and the attendance.
This is a live project to be felt, on the skin.
