Spring seems to be lagging behind all the cold fronts this year, but at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, Hatsume, the festival celebrating the first bud of spring, blooms this weekend.

It’s the Morikami’s biggest annual event and it’s still growing. They’ve added more thundering Taiko drummers and two new acts.

The ensemble Otodama will perform arrangements of Japanese traditional folk music as well as original works, blending rhythms and harmony of jazz, Japanese and classical music. Also new, EnV, featuring twins Estefania and Valentina Crespo, a pop rock duo whose debut album Beautiful Thing has been getting raves and earning them fans worldwide.

Hatsume Fair features three stages of continuous entertainment including drumming, martial art demonstrations and children’s activities. Anime at Hatsume features dealers and presentations on anime history, travel to Japan, Japanese folk tales and more. A cosplay contest — costume play — invites guests to dress up as their favorite anime character or action figure. The more outrageous and colorful, the better!

Artisan booths, plant sales, Asian and American food vendors and The Kirin Beer Garden offer options for everyone.

When: 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Where: The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, 4000 Morikami Park Road, Delray Beach.

"Love of Anime - Review : Hatsume Fair 2010"

The crown achievement of the day was the conclusion of the Hatsume, where two girls both artists and musicians who compose the band EnV rocked the stage by playing The Go-Go’s “Vacation” twice, once to begin the set and at the end for an encore and several favorites. (videos to be posted later) Blue wigs, fishnets and awesome loli-goth outfits completed the ensemble. While it took a while for the AV people to properly outfit the bass speakers, once it hit the crowd ate it up. Check out their upcoming shows to catch them live as they really know how to have fun and rally their audience.

At the end of their set, the crowd dispersed satisfied, I hope, and I caught this Naruto doing exactly what I could have only dreamed for at that point. A job well done everyone. - LoveofAnime.com

"Back to The Future"

If you haven't traveled to Clubland (AKA Miami Beach) in the past 48 hours, you might not be aware there's a new party genre in the offing. It's a little something called "neo-hippie cyberpunk kiddiecore," and to "get it," envision a computer-generated Woodstock set in the Neuromancer universe all about fat pants, friendship, and LSD. Or if your imagination is charred from too many head trips, just dial up and drop out when rave-slash-happening Love hits Poprox this Saturday.

Beginning at 10 p.m., this monthly dance party with a multimedia edge will host the Gotham Night Dreamworld Tour, featuring local bands Kill Miss Pretty, EnV, and DPX. There'll also be kinder art by anime pop designer Kawaii Universe. But sadly, don't expect Ecstasy dispensers or free holographic acid stamps of Timmy Leary's face. The fun stuff will be limited to seven-dollar beer-and-shot combos. Admission costs five bucks.

"FREC ANNOUNCES NEW TALENT TO HEADLINE THE 2009 STAR GALA"

THE FILM, RECORDING AND ENTERTAINMENT COUNCIL ANNOUNCES NEW TALENT TO HEADLINE THE 2009 STAR GALA

Miami, FL, August 06, 2009 -- The Film, Recording and Entertainment Council (FREC) announced today the addition of major talent to its annual Start Gala, to be held Saturday, November 14, 2009.

"We are looking forward to having such phenomenal talent on hand for this year's gala", says Miguel Bravo, Executive Director of the Film, Recording and Entertainment Council. "Aubrey Aquino, Natasha Tsakos and EnV are all stars in their own right, but together they will raise the excitement and cache of our organization's biggest event to date."

Aubrey Aquino joins Trina Robinson of NBC 6 as co-emcee of the event. A former NFL cheerleader and calendar model, Ms. Aquino is now a well-known television personality, reporter and author. Her entertainment and lifestyle feature segments have appeared on Miami-based Deco Drive/WSVN, ESPN's original series "Beg, Borrow and Deal" and she is the creator and host of On The Flipside. She has been featured on E! News, Fox Sports Net and AOL.com doing exclusive interviews with major celebrities like Hugh Jackman, Meryl Streep, Miley Cyrus, John Travolta, P. Diddy, Billy Bob Thorton, Forest Whitaker, Shaquille O'Neal, Patrick Dempsey, Serena Williams, Paris Hilton, Eva Mendes, Ne-Yo, Ludacris and more. Her TV career has spanned the country, from the San Francisco/San Jose Bay Area to Sacramento, Phoenix, Miami and beyond, and the FREC is proud to have her as part of the 2009 Star Gala.

The FREC also welcomes Natasha Tsakos for an exclusive performance. As President and Founder of the company ZERO, LLC, Ms. Tsakos is the driving creative force behind a long list of critically acclaimed theater experiences. A rising phenomenon with over 200 acting credits to her name, she has already written 12 original works, directed 30 plays and been commissioned by Nickelodeon, Miami Art Museum, Miami Light Project and Art Basel, and featured on HBO, MTV and BBC. Ms. Tsakos is the lead performer of Circ X (circx.com), a member of Octavio Campos’ Hybrid Theater company Camposition, and has even performed with Cirque du Soleil. Her one-woman conceptual show UP WAKE opened to sold-out crowds during the unveiling of the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami, and has since been invited to appear across the U.S., Europe and, in 2009, Asia. Most recently she was a guest speaker at the 2009 TED Conference, alongside such luminaries as Bill Gates, Al Gore and Herbie Hancock.

Finally, the FREC announces a live performance by EnV, a Miami-based pop rock duo featuring twins Estefania and Valentina Crespo. Born and raised in Coral Gables, Florida, the girls began their careers as child models for Irene Marie, one of South Beach's top agencies, and soon their talent for music and dance emerged. In 2008, the twins collaborated with Grammy-nominated producer Giuseppe D. on their debut EP "Beautiful Thing." Their single "I Am Willing” was chosen for The Orlando Rockers for Life compilation and the "Ground Control" anti-drunk driving campaign. Already garnering positive reviews for their upbeat, catchy sound, EnV's “Beautiful Thing” EP is out now on Konzepcion Musik.
