Originally from Tokyo, Emergency Tiara, a rising wonder within New York's music scene, has taken this city as her own. She is petite, vivacious, and filled with soul and the mission to constantly bring in the sun that she delights in, with a noted touch of glamor. Proving that happy is not lofty, Emergency Tiara's lyrics offer the eternal fresh breath of air with classically trained vocals given to pop and beach rock nuances.
Sometimes a meeting ground between cool Hawaiian rhythms and the sultry legacy of En Vogue, and always the commander of beauty and brilliance, Emergency Tiara stands out. (Particularly for the fact that fashion insiders are starting to take note of her eye for Chanel, Christian Dior, and Hermes, as well as Alice+Olivia.) Whether performing at exclusive events like holiday events for Escada and De Beers, as well as at packed performances at Rockwood or the recent launch of Double-D Production at The Strand Hotel, she's the one to watch and listen.
Her original music is celebrated (her hit "Poison" will be released as a single this month), and her covers include Pink's "Give Me A Reason" (performed with Mathew Schiener) and One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful". Experience a sound that stands out from the crowd and delivers a set that proves to be a summer escape on July 15 at Mercury Lounge. Emergency Tiara will take the stage at 9PM.
Emergency Tiara's debut EP is due out on October 29th. Until then you find her music at emergencytiaramusic.com.
For now, Emergency Tiara shares her responses to my film Proust questionnaire.
What movie is the story of your life, and in what context?
"Winnie the Pooh" (2011) because I hate conflict, I really do. The characters at 100 Acre Wood are very different from each other yet all they have is honest thoughts without harming one another. They live in love and peace. Well, that's how I want my life to be.
Why did you see last movie you saw?
I saw "The Great Gatsby" (2013). Once I saw the trailer and fell in love the flapper costumes!!! Everything about the costume design - the hair accessories, make up, dresses, one of my favorite eras of fashion!
If you could have superpowers what would they be?
Power to make people laugh anytime I want. It feels so good to laugh. It would be amazing if I had the power to make other people laugh, feel good, and be happy!
Which movie makes you feel most like home?
"Howard the Duck"(1986). It was my brother's favorite movie when we were kids so I ended up watching it with him every time he watched. Eventually, the VHS wore out, and we couldn't watch it anymore. I actually watched it the other day and the duck was so creepy…. memories are always so beautiful.
What movie are you embarrassed to admit that you love?
I usually don't like anything gross but have to admit that I love "Team America: World Police" (2004)!
If you had to write a screenplay, what genre would it be in?
It would be a fairytale with a Japanese princess a the lead. It's been a long time since "Mulan" (1998) came out, so it's about time for another Asian princess, right?
What’s the most epic movie you have ever seen?
The Star Wars movies. Classic. I actually watched all six in a very short period of time and had a bit of Star Wars withdraw for a little while.
What’s the most underrated movie you have ever seen?
"Mirror Mirror" (2012). I thought it was very funny and costumes are amazing! The costume designer, Eiko Ishioka, is actually Japanese!!
The movie have you watched more times than you would care to admit?
"Amelie" (2001). I love, love, love Amelie. Her hair, the fashion, soundtrack, storyline, creme brulee and everything! I even got the Amelie bob haircut right after I saw the movie.
Amazon, Netflix or Hulu?
Netflix. Just watched all the Mad Men episodes.
What device do you prefer to watch movies on?
I got my first Blu-ray player not that long ago so that's my best friend now.
What movie do you love that you make others watch?
"Beauty and the Beast" (1991), "Up" (2009), "Monsters, Inc." (2001)…I like making boyfriend watch those "girly" movies that he might not watch without me.
In a biopic of your life, who would play you?
Li Gong. My best friend told me that I remind him of her and that was the best compliment I had ever heard! I would be super honored if she would play me.
What movie character do you most identify with?
Belle of "Beauty and the Beast." She is very dreamy, loves to read, loves to sing, talks to animals, weird, fell in love with the beast…Well, that's me.
Who would thank first in your Oscar speech?
I would thank all the people who supported me, including my little chihuahua. - Examiner.com

Need some new music to spice up your Monday? It’s the perfect way to kick off a new week, and we’ve got exactly the girl you’re looking for!
Emergency Tiara is as talented in music as they get. Her newest single “Poison” combines a pop sound with a surf-rock feel. There’s nothing like Emergency Tiara’s music out there. To learn more about her music and the single, we talked with the girl herself. Check out our interview below!
Fanlala: What inspired the name “Emergency Tiara?”
Emergency Tiara: It actually came from when I was hanging out with my friends in the Den. We were playing around with a tiara, and one of our friends Matthew Scheiner (of Oberhofer / Tropic of Pisces) started to call the tiara "emergency tiara". We all laughed but the idea stuck with me when choosing my name. Everyone should be able to grab their emergency tiara and let go of all the negativity that comes with everyday life.
F: What do you want people to feel when they hear your music?
ET: Happiness, love, joy and all other beautiful feelings.
F: Tell us about your song “Poison.” What’s the message you want to get with it?
ET: Be confident in who you are and know what your charms (poison) are. Everyone has so many qualities that they might not be able to see just yet :)
F: What is your earliest memory with music?
ET: My mom always tells me that I started to sing and dance before I could really talk. My earliest memory is going to a street fare with my family when I was probably around 5 years old. There was a big stage (well, big for 5 years old, maybe) with a few famous Japanese actors and comedians. They were asking for volunteers to sing and dance with them, so I went up. I was the only kid among about 10 adults. They gave me green polka dots PJs as the best performer! Hahaha.
F: If people went to see you live, what kind of performance could they expect on stage?
ET: Fun, bubbly and colorful performance for eyes, ears and soul:)
F: Is there anything that you’re working on for the future?
ET: I would love to keep sending positively cheery music, vibes and fashion to the world!
You can check out “Poison” on Emergency Tiara’s Soundcloud page right now at Soundcloud.com/emergencytiara/poison, and be sure to look out for her seven track EP out on October 29. Be sure to check out Fanlala Radio for more amazing music as well, your ears will thank you! - FanLaLa

So why don’t you introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Emergency Tiara, a pop singer from Japan, now based in NYC. My goal is to create music that lifts your spirits, makes people smile and be happy. After music, my second love is fashion. You can see some of my personal style at diary.emergencytiaramusic.com.
How did you get started in the music scene?
I was singing in a choir in Japan conducted by Seiji Ozawa, that’s my first “professional” music experience. I wanted to be a opera singer up until I was maybe 15 years old because of that opportunity. Then after that, I fell in love with Motown music, decided to move to states where Motown music is originated.
What are your music influences?
Motown, spice girls, and the cardigans.
What has it been like to work with Tata Vega, Raheem DeVaughn, Bootsy Collins, Dontae Winslow and Valerie Simpson?
It was absolutely amazing, inspiring and encouraging. All of them including Terry Ellis (of en vogue whom I recently had an opportunity to sing with), were very friendly, open to share their talents and experiences… It was like living in my dreams.
What was the recording and writing process for “Poison” like?
It was actually lots of emails going back and forth because I was working with a producer and his writers based in LA. I have never met my co-writer in person! But It was very quick to get the song done including recording and I had such a wonderful time working with them.
What can you tell us about the track?
The track is very beachy, California, surf rock sound but the song is sassy, playful with a hint of darkness. I hope you’ll enjoy the combination of sunshine and shadow.
Any official title for your new EP? What details can you give us about it?
Hmm… I don’t know the title yet:) haha. Hopefully it’ll come to me soon. The EP will probably have 6 songs that have received good feedback from audiences at my shows. - Vents Magazine

Finally we’ve got NYC based femme-fatale, Emergency Tiara and her debut single “Poison”. This tracks comes from her seven song EP which is set for delivery on October 29th. Emergency Tiara is a cosmopolitan, sultry and glamorous woman. She was classically trained in vocals and piano and utilizes her training to uplift and empower her audience. Her look is one of sweetness, like a glamorous girl next door that would thrill any mom or dad if she was brought home to dine. This is all an act though. She’s not sweet and innocent, she’s here to steal your man. Poison’s lyrics include “Oh, of course I took your man away, It’s just a game I play” and “Once I get right under the skin, There’s no cure, there’s no medicine”. Mommy, you may want to lock that boy away. - write.cook.click.listen

Since arriving on the music scene, the enticing singer has performed at numerous venues and has worked with artists and industry icons such as Tata Vega, Raheem DeVaughn, Bootsy Collins, Dontae Winslow and Valerie Simpson. Emergency Tiara has a low-fi surfer vibe similar to Best Coast combined with the fashion and pop potency of Gwen Stefani.

Here’s a snapshot: A petite, beautiful Japanese fashionista with the aesthetic of Gwen Stefani and the sweet, clear voice of a less commercial Selena Gomez. This person actually exists, and her name is Emergency Tiara.
This Berklee College of Music grad has a range of local shows under her belt, her most recent being the Mercury Lounge in NYC. I went, devoid of expectation as I’d never heard of Emergency Tiara before, but was pleasantly surprised. As a songwriter, Emergency Tiara has perfected a pop-meets-Motown sound, and her songs could soundtrack a fun, children’s Disney film or a long drive down the California coast. She’s written power ballads, power pop anthems and groovy, relaxed rock. Demi Lovato would buy any of her upbeat pop tracks for her own use, but Emergency Tiara’s tone is so crisp, light and pure, that she’s got the vocal talent to pull off anything in the setlist (even if she’d make bank selling songs to more established artists).
Her songs are playful and coy, as is her stage presence. She’s hot, she’s exotic, she’s somehow naïve and adorable. There’s no doubt Emergency Tiara feels at home on stage (though her backup singers and band seemed a bit less animated and performative) and watching her is a huge treat. Check out emergencytiaramusic.com and sift through her photos to fully grasp the visual.
I’d advise listening to “Poison” on SoundCloud and checking her site for upcoming shows. With a little work on her backup team and her continued branding efforts (she’s got a look, a sound, a certain finesse) Emergency Tiara should find great feedback and exposure once her album drops October 29. - Sonic Eclectic

New York-based experimental pop artist Emergency Tiara has a sound that can only be described as a masterful mix of Japanese pop-rock, uptempo 60's tunes, fast and fine rhythms that seem to be inspired by Tokyo, and straightforward lyrics. ET, who was born in Tokyo with the name Juri Jinnai, isn't afraid of leaning into the strange and unique with her bubbly escapism. But make no mistake: she doesn't hide behind all the color and theatrics. At the core of her music is authenticity, and the celebration of different people's authentic selves.
ET has been immersed in the fashion circuit, having performed in a number of fashion parties held in New York, including Fendi, Bulgari, and Escada. And though she occupies a space in such a seemingly exclusive industry, and has a love for fashion, she maintains the mindset that everyone is equal and deserves to be treated as royalty — especially her fanbase. "This world is so fucked up. If I can provide any moment, any second or any opportunity, I want everyone to feel like a prince or princess," she writes in a statement. "We've been fortunate enough to perform largely for LGBTQ and fashion communities, who treated us like superstars, and it's been an absolute honor and thrill to play for these crowds."
PAPER premiere's Experimental Tiara's latest single, "Do Not Disturb," which is the fourth track on her upcoming record, Unsophisticated Circus. The song is a bop that unmistakably draws from contemporary Japanese music, but somehow also maintains a retro feel. The lyrics speak about something personal, but also totally universal in the eyes of the artist. In an exclusive statement to PAPER, ET writes, "'Do Not Disturb' is an exercise in self-love, acknowledging the bandwidth of patience, when it comes to toxic individuals and relationships."
"I used to believe that we can change people if we remain patient, even when they are toxic. Then, I realized that most of the time, they will only change if they decide to change, themselves." She continues, "So, it's not always the best practice to waste your time, love and energy on toxic people, and sometimes it's best to just move on. If the universe cares about them, they will go through tribulations that will help them grow in the longterm. Until then, I 'shut the door.'"
Regarding her whole forthcoming album, the idea of "oneness" is key. "Everyone has an impact and influence on the world around them, and we have a massive responsibility to do good as key players on planet earth," she writes in the statement. "My goal is to offer optimism and hope in a world that may be incredibly bleak at times. Much like a circus, the world is maddening and plumb crazy, but everyone plays a part and we have to remember that despite our differences, we are all equal players in the ring."
ET concludes, "So hopefully there's a song for everyone, and the gratitude that I felt in the moment — for beauty in the authentic self — is palpable on the record. We are all equally important and valuable! " - Paper Magazine
Emergency Tiara‘s saccharine, 60’s inspired music embraces pure pop at its best. Juri Jinnai – who was classically trained at the prestigious Berklee Colege of Music – makes the kind of uplifting, infectious tracks you inevitably find yourself dancing and singing along to on repeat.
The Tokyo-born, NYC-based artist just dropped a fun, tutti frutti-hued video for her latest single “2 KOOL 4 SKOOL”, lifted from her latest album Unsophisticated Circus.
“Emergency Tiara is about exploring what’s been suppressed. When I’m on the stage, it’s like I have a free pass to be who I am and do what I want to do, without worrying about hurting feelings or being polite,” Jinnai – who’s just been on a 14-date UK tour with pop legend Berlinda Carlisle – explains. “On the stage, I can be more self-involved, in a healthy way, and just allow myself to be who I am. So, it’s very freeing for me, and hopefully everyone at the show.” - Wonderland Magazine
If your holiday music playlist needs a good kick in the pants, look no further than Tokyo – by way of New York City. Emergency Tiara, the art-pop vocal band led by vocalist/ringleader Juri Jinnai, have just thrown their Santa hat in the ring with a smart, jazzy cover of the classic "Santa Baby", made famous by Eartha Kitt in 1953 but subsequently covered by everyone from Madonna to Kylie Minogue to Ariana Grande.
Emergency Tiara, whose debut album, Unsophisticated Circus, was released in September, seems almost destined to cover the song, as it fits in well with their 1960s girl-group vibe. They manage to infuse an almost space-age lounge buzz to the song, as Jinnai's vocals are filtered through mysterious distortion and playful organ chords give it a mid-century jazz feel. It's reminiscent of similar retro-leaning female vocal groups like the Pipettes and the Puppini Sisters in that it's a nod to the past but with a sincerity that prevents it from being overly derivative. Jinnai admits that – growing up in Tokyo – she'd never heard the song until she moved to the States, but it seems fitting for her band. "Cheeky, needy, flirty and sweet," she calls the song in the press release. "When I first heard the song, I felt like I was seen."
Jazzy, soulful, and with a buzz not unlike a good hit of eggnog, Emergency Tiara takes a decades-old classic and makes it seem fresh and new. - Pop Matters

Whether through music, fashion, traveling, relaxing, or even the gym; ET will provide you with an experience that will make you feel like royalty. Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. Classically trained in voice and piano, Juri is driven by the power of music to uplift audiences, having developed her love of singing through early performances with the likes of leading performers including: Japanese classical vocalist, Ken Nishikiori, on La Damnation de Faust, conducted by Seiji Ozawa (now musical director of Vienna State Opera). Juri is a graduate of Berklee College of Music. During her time at BCM, she had great opportunities to learn many genres of music from jazz and Latin, to African and hip hop. She has worked with artists and industry icons such as Tata Vega, Raheem DeVaughn, Bootsy Collins, Dontae Winslow and Valerie Simpson. Since graduating BCM, Juri has been developing her own unique sounds with help of many musically talented people in her life, such as: vocal coach Dave Stroud, co-writer Carrie Haber, producer/ MD Dave Cole, and Grammy winning recording engeneer Jeremy Loucas to name a few. To understand the layered musical styles and the harmonies that make up her music, imagine if J-Pop and French Pop had a music baby named Emergency Tiara.
In 2019, she performed at the NAMM Conference in LA, SXSW in Austin, participated in the High School Nation Tour, Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, MIDEM Conference in Cannes, and was the support act for Belinda Carlisle's UK Tour in the fall.
