PATRICK “MakeItPlain” BARRY
has devoted his life to fulfilling the great commission and living out his call to evangelism. Having grown up a fan of hip hop and understanding the impact that the music had on him, he saw it as a tool that could be used to preach Christ. He has served in the ministry for over 16 years and has been privileged to share the gospel from coast to coast.
MIP came to Christ in November 1989 in Abilene, Texas. He was called into the gospel ministry in 1992. His early influences were KRS-ONE, Run DMC, LL Cool Jay, Public Enemy, Whodini, Kurtis Blow, Big Daddy Kane, and Kool Moe Dee. After he felt the call to use hip hop as a tool for ministry he quickly learned of groups like I.D.O.L. King, A-1 Swift, ETW, the early Gospel Gangsta's, and his favorite group, the Dynamic Twins.
After a brief period away from the hip hop ministry he was introduced to Cross Movement's House of Rep's by a friend at church and his passion was reignited. MIP was most impressed by The Ambassador, and to this day, still views him as the epitome of the Hip Hop minister. His influences today are CM, The Ambassador, Sho Baraka, and Flame.
He strives to have his own brand of music and caters to the 21 to 45 year old follower of hip-hop. His aim is to write easily understood songs that convey the pleasure found in the Christian life, the love of God, the forgiveness of God, and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
Normally, he can be seen sharing in ministry with 6 brothers in the faith as a member of the Chicago based Christian Hip Hop crew Out-World. Make-It-Plain is an associate pastor at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, IL where he serves faithfully discipling the men of the church and serving alongside the senior pastor and pastoral team.
Make-It-Plain is a minister of the gospel first, and an artist and M.C. second. His understanding of his role in hip hop can be summed up in his catch phrase, “to me M.C. means MAGNIFY CHRIST!”
