Orlando recording artist Eddie
Jones must have the Midas touch. His CDs – Golden Favorites, Best of the Blues and Eddie Jones
and Friends – have drawn raves from critics and his next release due this summer, Best of
the Best, promises to be just as popular.
Jones’ style has been compared to those of Jimmy Smith and Jimmy McGriff. But ask this humble jazz and blues artist and he’ll tell you, “I’m flattered, but I like to think I put my
own signature on everything I play.”
Born in Texas, Jones credits his mother, who earned a Ph.D. in music, with encouraging him to pick up woodwinds when he was
quite young, followed later by the piano, organ and saxophone.
“There’s something so special about watching a person evolve from a somber facial expression to utter happiness after having escaped for a brief moment with the help of music,” Jones says. “I love that music can do that for people.”
Jones says he always wanted to move to Florida: “I love the variety of cultures in the
area and the kind of music people bring with them. Florida is home to me now!”
Fortunately, the hard-touring Jones saves something for the home crowd: Recent Central Florida shows have included the
House of Blues, Universal Studio, the Disney Dolphin Hotel, American Legion and VFW
events honoring men and women of military and the 7th Annual Onyx Awards.
