Bio

Dynamite Orchestra is an Alternative Rock band conceived in the Fall of 2014 in the suburbs of North Jersey by singer/songwriter and guitarist, Alfi Alvarez.

Before getting into songwriting and composing, Alfi was like any other guitarist in high school studying at the altar of Eddie Van Halen and Angus Young. It was when Alfi heard music from Neil Young, The Eagles, Lou Reed and Bruce Springsteen that made him realize how powerful words can be in music. It is the same kind of storyteller writing that can be heard oozing out of the band's songs. Before creating a band, Alfi set out to expand his musical knowledge and attended Berklee College of Music in 2008 where he was introduced to another Jerseyite and mutual friend, drummer, Tim Sorbanelli.

In the summer of 2014, while living back home in Jersey, Alfi had started a band called Elected Kings with a pianist and took in Tim from Boston as the drummer. Days later, he ran into a mutual neighborhood friend who happened to play bass. In walks Kevin Petty (no relation to Tom, though wouldn’t our lives be easier). After the summer ended, a fall out happened with the pianist, and then there were three! Keeping it a three-piece, the guys reformatted the material, wrote new songs and changed the name to Slaves and Martyrs. As Tim continues to live in Boston, the band has taken in other talented drummers to accompany them on stage.

By the end of October of 2014 the band had written and polished off songs that were different and unique in a way they themselves couldn’t pinpoint whom they sounded like. Audiences would say the same thing. They successfully blended influences from classic and modern Rock as well as some of the Blues to create an eclectic sound that moves and colors the imagination. It was a goal Alfi had set out to accomplish and succeeded. In January of 2015, the boys headed into the studio and banged out their six song debut EP called “Free” - simply because it would later be available online for free. Their goal is to create songs that tell stories not normally heard in today’s world of popular music. Songs like Bonnie and Clyde, Radio Man and When I Was A Child are clear examples of that creative goal. Reviewers and venue owners have called their music “Refreshing”, “Unique” and “A breath of fresh air”. Currently, the band is now working on promoting their debut EP, performing, possibly expanding their live instrumentation and writing more material for their next release.
