Bio
DUG is a prog-jazz-funk-electro-rock-jam band that continues to grow & mature with each passing month. The group, which started out being named Statistition, originally got its start in Anaheim, CA four years ago. After a few years of developing a loyal following in the OC/LA area but frustrated by the lack of greater opportunities, the guys decided a change was needed. In the early summer of 2008, the band moved to Colorado to take advantage of the awesome live music scene the state has to offer. Along with the change in environment, they felt a different name for the band was needed for their new venture, and changed it to DUG. The outfit is currently beginning to build a buzz around southern Colorado, as well as Denver. Some bands for which they've had the wonderful occasion to open for are Benevento/Russo Duo, Tea Leaf Green, Hot Buttered Rum String Band, JFJO, Green Lemon, Salvador Santana Band, Delta Nove, Alfred Howard & K23 Orchestra, War, Underground Orchestra, Revolutionary Side Effects and Yamn. Venues that have been played are The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, CA; The Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana, CA; Sherwin's Folly in Mammoth Lakes, CA; Alpine Meadows Ski Lodge in Lake Tahoe, CA; The Blue Cafe in Long Beach & Huntington Beach, CA. Some venues that have been played in Denver are Owsley's Golden Road, Dulcinea's 100th Monkey, Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom, Quixote's True Blue and Herman's Hideaway. The Ancient Mariner in Manitou Springs, CO is a local favorite. The band was also selected for the Summer Camp On The Road Tour 2009, hosted by Team B Productions; the South Park Music Tour 2009, hosted by McGoon Productions; & the Emerald Empire HempFest 2009, hosted by Normal Bean.
The thing that sets this band apart from every other up-and-coming group is their insane originality. The various influences that each member contributes to the group mind is revealed in their intricate musical compositions. Some of these include Phish, Grateful Dead, moe., Umphrey's McGee, Joe Satriani, MMW, JFJO, Ben Folds, Steve Vai, Earth Wind & Fire, Benevento/Russo Duo, Robert Walter, Stanton Moore, Pink Floyd, Yes, Rush, Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, Return to Forever, Soulive & Garaj Mahal.
