Bio
D’Simone’s love affair with music began when he was a young boy growing up in the suburbs of New Jersey. As the son of veteran music arranger/producer, Charles Calello, he spent much of his youth in recording studios hanging out with some of the biggest artists of the 70s and 80s. By the time he was in his early teens he was writing his own songs and knew music was something he wanted to pursue.
During his high school years, while most of his classmates were on the football field, D’Simone could be found on the stage of the auditorium banging out Elton John and Billy Joel tunes on the grand piano. He dreamed about moving to Boston and attending Berklee College of Music, and once he graduated from high school that’s exactly what he did.
At Berklee, D’Simone was exposed to the world of rock and roll music that he had read about in Rolling Stone magazine. Within a few months of arriving in Boston, he formed a band and started playing in local clubs. He spent the next several years developing his talent as a musician, songwriter and live performer, building a devoted fan base and earning a coveted spot on Boston’s Top 10 Live Band list. Long before other local bands thought about recording their own music, D’Simone was learning how to make records with his band mates and recording in studios that he designed and built. He quickly became known for his recording and production skills, and started working with many local and national musicians. As time went on, he found himself taking on the role of engineer and producer more and more.
In the mid 90s, D’Simone decided it was time for a change and moved to New York. He rented a large apartment and converted half of it into a recording studio. Within a few months he had settled into New York’s Indie music scene and was recording and producing a number of artists, which was great, but left very little time for his own music. A songwriter at heart, he struggled to balance his role as a producer with his desire to pursue his own music. The songs were piling up in his head, though, and after a while, he knew what he needed to do.
After a few months of writing, D’Simone began recording his new music and exploring the possibility of releasing an album as an independent artist. He's released three singles from the debut album, Sleepwalking (title track) and Desert Rain, which were both co-produced by his father, Charles Calello, and Follow, which he co-wrote with his friend/former bandmate, Jeff Soriano. He is currently performing live shows in New York with a group of very talented musicians and promoting his debut album.
