"... Towey's mellow folk-rock voice is reminiscent of Belinda Carlisle and Michelle Shocked. Her backup band of electric guitar, bass, and drums maintains a groovy vibe that balances pop and folk musical styles. Kids will find it easy to join in on songs such as "Your House," with humorous lines such as, "You can come to my house but there's nothing to do"...." - School Library Journal
"It wasn't so much reinvention as evolution. One step led to another. I was always writing and illustrating while teaching, my writing became more lyrical as my children were born. I never said, "I can't do this"... instead I thought, this feels good and I want to try it." - Role Mommy
Parents’ Choice reviewer Lahri Bond writes, “Dre Towey recorded her first CD for children, Chester the Dog, to much deserved acclaim. Her newest, Sugar on Top, continues her skillful wordplay, strong instrumentation and hip delivery. Adults will be reminded of singer/songwriters such as Jonatha Brooks, Suzanne Vega and particularly Michelle Shocked.... but kids will simply love her unbridled spunkiness. Towey writes intelligent, fun and slyly educational songs that kids will love, and which parents will easily welcome into their car and home.”
