Bio
Doug E. Sunshine's musical journey began in the 1970s, where his early fascination with music turned into a passionate obsession by his teenage years. As a rock guitar player, Doug was influenced by legendary artists such as Eddie Van Halen, Alex Lifeson, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Steve Vai. His musical tastes were diverse, also embracing artists like Jerry Reed, ABBA, Neil Diamond, Bach, and Mozart.
Doug's early years were marked by playing in bands, co-writing songs, and covering popular tracks. Despite his talent, he preferred staying out of the spotlight and never aimed to be a frontman. Over time, Doug experienced a series of musical ups and downs, including moments of burnout and spiritual awakenings. These experiences led him to explore a variety of instruments, becoming a multi-instrumentalist proficient with flutes, mandolin, shovel, violin, and clarinet, in addition to his existing skills with bass, drums, and keyboard vocal harmony.
After playing in bands for over 35 years, Doug grew weary of performing other people's music and de-pending on other musicians for collaboration. Seeking to reinvent himself, he pushed beyond the "shreddy" guitar player persona of the 80s. Doug began writing songs again, refining his vocal abilities, and mastering crowd engagement with humor and charisma.
Doug's evolution continued as he delved into recording, producing, and playing all instruments on his tracks. He also took on the challenge of mixing and creating his own music videos, establishing himself as a multifaceted artist. High Desert's FAULTLINE
Doug was a key member of High Desert's FAULTLINE from late 1988 to 1993. He reunited with the band's founder and vocalist in the 2000s. During his time with FAULTLINE, they wrote, recorded, and performed over 22 original songs live, captivating a growing local fanbase. The band played at iconic venues such as Gazzari's on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood and various locations across the L.A. area.
Recently, Doug was asked to re-record "DREAMS" and "THERE FOR YOU" for a documentary about the High Desert band scene in the 1980s, which also includes nostalgic interviews with Doug. Additionally, they recorded their popular cover of Blue Oyster Cult's "GODZILLA" with a special guest.
Among Doug's solo works is a revamped version of his original song "TALK TO ME," transformed into a country rock tune with funk overtones. His commitment to his craft and his ability to adapt and evolve as an artist continue to drive his musical endeavors. This journey led him to create his latest album, Rumor Has It, which has been widely embraced by his fans. Additionally, in May, Doug had the exciting opportunity to open for the country music artist Chayce Beckham, further solidifying his presence in the music scene.
