"On The Radar: Don Pedigo"

Don Pedigo (from the album The Cross Eyed Sessions) - Don Pedigo is a guy with a guitar and a satchel full of heartfelt songs about the love and life that swirls around us. The Cross Eyed Sessions attacks with album opener “You’ve Got Everything”, taking a righteous stand for love as the track rises up and up, trying to make it over the back wall to become an anthem for taking charge of your life. Don Pedigo uses a bucket list wish to take him back to Natchez in 1976 to look for “The Spirit Of Jimmy Reed”, rides a rock’n’roll riff to take him to a “County Hotel”, uses 60-mile an hour white lines to keep the beat for “Motorcycle Song”, and fills up with “Cheap Unleaded” as two lovers leave Georgia in the rear view mirror. There is a point were influences become part of your own songcraft and Don Pedigo takes the best traits of a vast array of Roots styles. A Rock stance digs in as Don Pedigo grabs the handle for a hard ride rhythm in “Jonah”, huffs a harmonica sway to remind “Nobody Sleeps Alone”, and crawls out of Country Rock to take a peek at “Cross Eyed Sunday Morning”. - The Alternate Root

"DON PEDIGO BIDS HIS GRETSCH GOODBYE IN SONG"

When his beloved Gretsch guitar was stolen from a local luthier shop, and when all efforts to track it down dead-ended, Don Pedigo did what any young Nashville singer, songwriter and finger-picker would do: He turned his loss into a song.

What’s extraordinary about “Stolen Guitar” is its absence of anger. More than a farewell to a friend, it’s an expression of concern and love. Remarkably, Pedigo addresses the thief directly in this song, but it speaks just as clearly to anyone who has lost a favorite instrument. - Bob Doerschuk for CMA Closeup

Bio

Don Pedigo’s latest project THE CROSS EYED SESSIONS is a musical composition reflective of the life experiences of the everyday working man. A presentation crafted in a devotion to the art of creating a style unique, the collection of songs reveals one of the Americana movement’s most honest and compelling talents.

Born in Freetown, IN, Pedigo’s mid-western charm is matched by his ability to capture a listening audience with handcrafted lyrics and expressive vocals. With the will and work ethic of a Heartlander, Pedigo’s passion led him to the heart of Music City where life as a recording artist, songwriter, musician, husband, father and friend shaped a sonic chapter of Pedigo’s life called THE CROSS EYED SESSIONS. Mastered by five-time Grammy Award winning producer Ray Kennedy, the project captures the authentic and organic recording process within each song.

“I believe human experience and individual perception is what life is about. Each one of us is an artist; I choose music and lyrics as my medium. My desires lead me to travel and perform. I write about the things I see and people I meet.”

Arriving in Nashville, he caught the ear of legendary songwriter Earl Bud Lee (“Friends In Low Places”/Garth Brooks, “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking”/Blake Shelton) who nurtured Pedigo’s inherent song-crafting ability. In 2006, Pedigo recorded his first full-production record WHAT I WAS RUNNING FROM (featuring Buddy Miller on guitar) and released the single “Mama’s Wedding Gown” (produced by Larry Crane) the following year. The complementary music video qualified the tune as a finalist on the CMT Music City Madness Singer/Songwriter’s Competition Top 20 Video Countdown dubbing Pedigo as “the hard-rocking heartthrob from the heartland.”

Encompassing the influences of pure country, rock n’ roll and the storytelling songwriting community, traces of John Mellencamp, Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle and contemporaries such as Pete Yorn are detected in the roots of Pedigo’s offerings.

“I’m in a zone right now where the songs are just clicking and everything sounds meant to be. I’ve made other records but I am especially proud of this body of work and feel like I can hang my hat on it if I were to be remembered by these songs.”

Pedigo is currently touring the country in support of the anticipated THE CROSS EYED SESSIONS project [including dates in Austin, TX (SXSW) and New Mexico, Panama City and Chicago (co-headlining with Tawnya Reynolds)].
