Bio
Dolly Mavies is a London
based Soul/Folk singer-songwriter. Dolly released her first EP ‘Behind
Closed Eyes’ in December 2015 which climbed to #25 in the iTunes
singer-songwriter chart. Dolly’s song The Rain was announced as a Finalist in the Folk category of the
John Lennon International Songwriting Competition 2016.
With Welsh
roots and soulful sounds, Dolly's music captivates, with haunting vocals and
ambient tones. Her combination of folk, soul and acoustic guitar create an
emotive and poetic soundscape channelling life, love and loss.
Since Dolly’s
release in 2015 she has continued gigging and writing and has played at the O2
Academy in Oxford as part of BBC Introducing, The Half Moon in Putney,
Hootanannys in Brixton, The Hard Rock Café in London, The Jericho Tavern
Oxford, The Tin at The Coal Vaults in Coventry, Porters in Cardiff, Pyramid in
Leeds, Rescue Rooms in Nottingham, and has played live on BBC Radio Oxford, BBC
Radio Coventry and Warwickshire as well as performing on That's Oxfordshire TV
and Bay TV Swansea. Dolly will be playing at Common People Festival in Oxford
this May.
Dolly is
currently writing and recording for a new release in the summer of 2017. In addition to writing for her solo release,
Dolly has been collaborating with the Banbury based 3 piece Zurich,
writing a new single with front man Adrian Banks which will be released in April.
2016 saw
Dolly reach the Semi-Final of the Meet and Jam Singer/Songwriter competition in
association with Island records, as well as reaching the Semi Final in the
Be Somebody competition for The Indie Label, she also released her debut music
video for The Rain and headlined her first tour in South Wales. Dolly
has supported Zurich, Coasts, Little Comets, Tom Pointer, Sonia Stein,
Vesperteen, and Harry Pane.
Dolly’s influences include: Patti Smith, Eva
Cassidy, The Spice Girls, David Bowie, and an array of punk rock bands. Dolly Mavies has been likened to
artists such as: Florence and the Machine, London Grammar and Daughter.
