Dizzy Spells

Dizzy Spells are a Canadian Indie rock quintet based out of Hamilton, ON. In the Summer of 2011, Ryan Fisher and Damon Guyett had been in a band called The Achievers based out of Waterdown. In January of 2012, after jamming for several months, the group culminated at an Elliott Smith Tribute gig held at the Casbah in Hamilton. Afterwards, The Achievers eventually faded out of view; Damon went off to play with a post-rock 5-piece (inspire Influence), and a folk-rock 4-piece (Thieves! Thieves!), and Ryan had gone to join Hamilton-based garage rock 4-piece Norfolk.

Damon and Benjamin Schillaci met at a show in 2010 that Ben was playing, at the 24/7 Church on Plains Rd in Burlington - where Damon bought his EP entitled "Forts of Chairs and Quilts". They wouldn't end up jamming together until July of 2013, where they had played a small handful of shows at cafes/pubs around Hamilton and Waterdown. It wasn't until August 2013 when Dizzy Spells eventually formed when Ryan, Ben and Damon got together in the basement of Ryan's home in Dundas. There, they spent 5-6 months throwing ideas at each other, writing songs and recording as a trio, though they knew they had to keep a lookout for a bassist/additional guitarist, as well as a drummer. In January 2014, the band played a gig at the Homegrown Hamilton cafe alongside Kashew Butter, Great Danes (aka David Appleyard), and Nick Pacheco. It was there that, after seeing Great Danes (Dave) and being impressed with his performance, it was realized that he would fit the bassist/additional guitarist slot perfectly. A month later, the band began rehearsing as a 4-piece, rehearsing the songs that written when they were still a trio, as well as writing new songs. Not even 2-3 weeks later, Zach Vernon was recruited for drums, additional guitar and percussion. The band had finally become the quintet they are recognized as now.
