"[PREMIERE] DF3 – City Lights"

We’re stoked to present you with Brooklyn-based synth-pop trio DF3‘s latest single, “City Lights”. It comes to us from their forthcoming debut album, After A While, due out later this summer. I’ve had the pleasure of checking out some other cuts off the 8 track debut and I’m all jacked up. I never really swear in posts and I won’t start here but I want to. I [expletive] love this band and their sound. Forming in Mexico in 2013, they have since taken their talents to Brooklyn (lucky for us). They’ve got a familiar yet strange new sound that makes me revel in the future. The band tells us “City lights is a song about the magic of a night out in the city, meeting new people, new loves, new places and the beauty of enjoying every moment in life.” Amen to that. Looking forward to big things from these boys. - The most Definitely

"Music Recommendation – Single – DF3 Tell Me"

DF3’s debut single Tell Me left me wanting more. The artists/producer trio began work on their first album this year, and Tell Me is a preview of the Alternative-synth-pop sound of DF3. Sound familiar?

Despite residing in the same genre as Bastille, this group’s sound is distinctive in the vocals and heavier reliance on the synth-aspect of their music. Tell Me gets a bit chaotic and hard to understand at points, but you cannot say it isn’t catchy.

DF3 almost reminds me of a male CHVRCHES, really. The only difference is that the male vocals aren’t like listening to a cheese-grater rubbing against a production and voice-editing set. The hook features a huge build-up, while each verse has a consistent outline that makes it easy to pick up the tune. I find this song easy to listen to and replay, especially when the chorus explodes out of the first couple of verses.

Overall, I would rate the song at:

9.5/10

This is an excellent step forward for DF3, and this track should be shared. The Synth-Pop/Alternative trend is coming alive and an excellent example of doing it right is Tell Me. I definitely recommend not sleeping on it.

To get a bit more info on the group’s bio and more, check out their article on MuzicNotez.com here. You can support DF3 by downloading the song on iTunes here. Don’t worry, this one will be going on the new Current AMP Favorites playlist soon enough (emphasis on the word new, announcement coming soon). - Austins music picks

"DF3 – “Tell Me” by Skope"

Synth-pop band DF3 have just released their debut single into the world and it’s a hot one; “Tell Me” is a flawless production through and through, showing real promise for this 3 piece band for the future to come. With its slow and steady pulse and driving chorus, this song is both a throwback in sound, but also a real standout in comparison to what’s currently out there.

“Tell Me” Audio Video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2–KHUR48Qo

Thinking of how bands like The Postal Service were able to sneak in even a Phil Collins cover with their rendition of “Against All Odds;” modern-day electro bands have plenty to be thankful for; those 80’s synth-pop bands paved the way for the sounds we often fall in love with today. With “Tell Me,” it sounds to me like DF3 aren’t so much trying to update the sound as they are attempting to bring a classic sound we all know, love and relate to back to the forefront. And judging from the quality of “Tell Me,” there’s a very good chance they could pull that off.

This engaging, emotionally-infused pop track has melody, flow and a very rhythmic groove. It has that familiarity and pulse you feel in songs like “Every Breath You Take,” by The Police; but there’s no evidence of any kind of imitation or copying here in DF3. They’ve managed to incorporate their influences perfectly into their sound in such a way that you can clearly hear they both love AND live out their music every moment they have their eyes open. “Tell Me,” has style, perfect production and crystal clear melodies and definitely has me excited about their future to come. With their fan-base already in the tens-of-thousands rampantly supporting their energetic and exciting new single, you kind of have to wonder when you hear a track like this…it’s such a radical departure from a lot of what’s out there, but such a comfortable place we love, timeless in our music’s history…

…it makes me wonder if I’m not listening to the type of band whose quality of music, passion and determination might just be strong enough to change the entire landscape of music all over again…we just might be.

"See DF3 – “Tell Me” – Dancing with sorrow"

“Tell Me”

After A While

Multi-instrumentalists Lino C (vocals, guitar & keyboard), Coa L (guitar, keyboard, & backup vocals) and Joe A (vocals & keyboard) came together in Mexico City around 2013. Since then, they have been working hard defining their sound, very modern dance music with that hint of the 80’s like the Pet Shop Boys and Soft Cell that make your feet move and your head think, something that is very difficult to balance out. The first single, “Tell Me” depicts feelings of loss and pain inspired by the struggles of losing a friend to the battle of cancer, yet presented is such a manner that you still want to dance to it. Yet, the danceability and beautiful melody of the song do not hide the heartfelt emotions. This is a band that we’ve all been waiting for. - AudioFuzz

"Df3 – Tell Me"

Df3 – Tell Me

Df3’s “Tell Me” embodies dance pop at its most optimistic. Akin to Röyksopp at his most ebullient the piece absolutely bubbles with well-crafted hooks and satisfying pieces. Singing through a series of filters the song tries to capture the emotion that transmits over such long distances. Clearly this is reflected in the song’s sound which has become completely globalized. One of the great things about the sound is how it is able to use its slight modulations to convey deeper thought and meaning. By focusing on the universality of loneliness, the lyrics themselves adhere to this very principal, exploring the infinitely relatable feeling of being by oneself.

The piece begins with a straight-ahead dance-friendly beat. From there the music shifts into a different approach. Reminiscent of the fusion attempts of acts like Justice and Daft Punk, the sound becomes quite enormous. With each repetition it grows constantly larger. Gradual at first the piece increases in volume, intensity, and ultimate impact. As the piece progresses those initial flourishes of sound come are explored more fully as the piece progresses, letting Df3 elaborate upon those early ideas. Moving away from the beginning’s pessimism the song blooms into happier colors. On the final stretch of the piece the work returns to its initial dance impulses. Unlike the beginning however imbued within this new sound is a different sense, a sense of hope.

Utilizing an arena-rock sound Df3 brings together the best of dance and rock into a neat package. - beachsloth blogspot

"DF3 debut new single ‘Tell Me’"

The song has a real retro feel to it with the beats and melody. However, the way it’s mixed it’s like the 80′s collided with the future to create this amazingly unique and fresh sound.

"DF3 premiere "Gotta Run""

Relocating from Mexico City to Brooklyn could prove to be a successful move for synth poppers, DF3. Between 2013 and 2014, the band wrote, recorded, and produced their debut album with the help of producers Michael Brauer (Coldplay, Twin Shadow, The Rolling Stones), Dave Bascombe (Chromeo, Goldfrapp, Ereasure) and Chris Zane (Passion Pit, St. Lucia). The band's first single “Tell Me” is an uptempo jam reminiscent of an 80s escapade, with a lyrically serious undertone. Their follow up “Gotta Run”, which we are premiering here, advocates taking risks with a disreputable woman, a circumstance also encouranged by their EDM-ish sound - isn't cheap sex what clubbing is all about, after all? - Robert Frezza - Thedelimagazine

"DF3 brought joyful synth pop to Leftfield (CMJ)"

DF3, a synth pop trio from California via Mexico and Brooklyn, were scheduled to play two shows for CMJ 2015, both at equally intimate dance clubs on the Lower East Side. First up was their show at Leftfield, which I decided to catch. Two days later, a show at Fat Baby was up and those who were there were equally lucky, because DF3 is a band that already did play and will continue doing so, huge venues.

Playing a music festival, be it SXSW or CMJ can be tough, because you're working against the clock all the time and the more tight knit your set-up, the better. And time was definitely not the friend of Lino, Coa and Joe that night, because they ended up playing only four tracks due to the strained schedule.

But hey, it's not always The More, The Merrier, but I much rather prefer Quality Over Quantity! And what we heard that evening at Leftfield was modern synth pop at its best, boasting with catchy hooks and dance beats. Also, there was luckily no time limit once the show was over and so I could have a nice chat with Lino and am looking forward to another show of DF3 - may I hope for next year? - Glamglare
