Urban Dictionary defines DeFunk as :
DeFunk: To Fix; To clean up; to
remove nasty, or unknown particles
or debris.
DeFunk (the band) has a motto, DeFunk Your Soul, and they have been doing just that for the people
of Southeast Georgia and the surrounding areas; Being voted EIL Magazine's, "Best Band Of The Golden Isles 2012,"
becoming quite the household name.
With an eclectic blend of neo- soul with jazz, funk, reggae and R-n-B roots..
DeFunk builds each song from the ground up using looping technology, geared by live musicians. Starting out as a cover band, to keep the bills paid, they quickly became a hit due to their renditions of many seldom covered favorites.
Now focusing on adding new inspiration and original music, such as local hits like "Yeah Yeah", "Heartbreak" and "Convenient Store High; DeFunk is branching out and taking their "Electric Soul"nation wide!
Josh Nunn began his music career in church.
Playing various instruments from the time he was 12.
Pianos eventually turned to clavichords and keyboards,
as he combined his classical past with new technology.
Soon he was hooked on music production and live
performance, playing in a variety of music projects
across the South. This soul heavy Jazz man's loop engineered style of
music is the foundation of DeFunk. Combining keys,
synths and saxophone to build a "full" band sound,
with just one man.Well know in the golden isles for
his sax solos.
Evan Daniell's love for music started at a very young age. Evan received his first drum kit at the age of 7 and the fire was lit. Evan now had his mind set on learning guitar. He got his first electric guitar at the age of 13. It wasn't until 1999 when he ventured into the world of electronic music. Getting his start in the Atlanta underground scene it was apparent that his love of beats was going to be a defining role in his life. A few short years later he found himself in Las Vegas learning and perfecting his craft. Evan was brought into the Twizted Bizcuit Productions/Ra inside Luxor. Evan was soon playing various venues across Sin City. Evan would later return to the south where he brought his sound across the South East. With his Love of music growing even larger he found comfort from the band Widespread Panic who he had followed for years. Evan fell in love with the sound of percussion once more. He soon bought his first set of congas and began the journey he is still on to this very day. In 2007 Evan began his career as a percussionist in the band Smoke Eye and later Local Shakedown.During this time Evan met Josh Nunn for the first time. While the band moved on to various side projects Evan still studied the techniques he would later refine and make his own. It wasn't until a year or so later when he meet Jay Jurrell. Evan has expressed his soul through various forms of music throughout the years. His multi-instrumental approach to sound has given him the ear for detail. In 2014, Evan now a seasoned percussionist was reacquainted with the boys of Defunk and the rest as they say is history.
