“Conscious Mess” is a diverse, fascinating, and thoroughly strong album. The songs…are as different as life itself, and the Snyder sisters have skillfully managed to make all these influences into one big whole…. A deliberate mess, as the title says. - ArtNoir
- 20 Min
Sisters Sarah and Stephanie Snyder of Deer Park Avenue announce the video for their single, “Hate Me” – premiering first on The Women’s International Music Network. The song is a fist-raising anthem, driving and emotionally charged, rallying against abuse and manipulation, and taking a closer look at the relationships in our lives that can damage us in subtle ways.
It speaks of being taken for granted and picked apart – of someone taking only the pieces of us they want instead of accepting us as a whole. It can be deeply personal – psychological or physical abuse in a relationship that swings between the euphoric and the toxic. It can also be more general and broader reaching – cultural appropriation, racism, or sexism. - The WiMN
VM: Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Scars”?
DPA: Scars is a really personal song for us. It’s a song about finding love when you least expect it, about being open and vulnerable and being excited about loving someone again. Musically it’s a powerful sound with big guitars and some throwback 60s harmonies – we grew up listening to really old stuff, including doo-wop from the 50s and 60s and that makes its way into our music now and then. - Vents Magazine
When I was told that I could have the chance to interview the American rock band 'Deer Park Avenue', I was quite excited, since they are not only well-known in the United States for their music, but also for covering many of my favourite bands such as Nirvana and the Beatles.
Sarah and Stephanie Snyder are sisters who started out as journalists and now are musicians, music bloggers, and voting members of the Recording Academy (GRAMMYs). - Blasting News

#WEAREALLAMESS
In a spectacularly messy time for the world, Conscious Mess hit the shut-in streaming world with a quiet explosion. The stream of consciousness from sisters Sarah and Stephanie is about who we are when we don’t know who we are. In a world obsessed by perfection, their songs are about being a glorious, unapologetic, beautiful mess.
The album is a high-speed race down a rock ‘n’ roll freeway—fun, gritty, unnervingly honest… an explosion of sound and emotion that turns earphones into a stadium. Punk energy and pop sensibilities drive cutting social commentary and laugh-out-loud cultural satire. Channeling angsty distortion of the 90s and a booming tom attack made for a fresh new decade, the album touches on materialism, isolation, being a misfit, and just growing up.
FROM BALLET TO PUNK ROCK
The sisters studied piano and classical ballet before getting a drum kit and electric guitar and exploring rock and roll. The daughters of a pastor got their start playing in their dad’s church on Long Island – a classic white-steeple east coast church where drums and guitar had never been played before.
SWISS CALIFORNIA GIRLS
Deer Park Avenue signed with Muve Recordings in Switzerland, a return to their Swiss heritage on their dad’s side, mixed with the beautifully rich culture of India from their mother’s side. The international duo have a unique take on how culture creates art. This blend has created both a passion for the world and a reluctance to push humanity into neatly packaged stereotypes.
DPA have been featured on blogs and YouTube channels like Sofar Sounds, ArtNoir, and QSC Audio, and have been playlisted by Spotify, Filtr, PIAS, and many others. Known for their relentlessly energetic live shows, the band endorse music merchants Audix Microphones, Epiphone Guitars, Paiste Cymbals, Dixon Drums, Alvarez, and others. Advocates for live music, especially in teaching young women how to play rock ‘n’ roll, they have started the Youth Band Project, creating community and self-confidence for teens through the experience of music.
